I think I could live with signal degradation if it meant fuzzy image not no image. Can you show a link to the 75 foot cord and camera that worked for you.
Thank you

iCam Support / Webcam usb extension cable recommendations
« on: November 09, 2012, 08:31:00 AM »
I have been experimenting with adding cheap USB webcams to my camera network. Im running icam on a netbook. I have an active USB extension and a regular USB extension both don't work to connect to the webcam. The webcam is no longer present on my computer. Oddly a USB mouse will work through both extensions. I am thinking of trying the extension in conjunction with a powered USB hub to make sure it is not a voltage drop issue. I am also considering trying the USB over cat 5 cable set ups.  Does anyone have a combination of parts that works to instal a webcam wired about 20' from the computer?

I sent over my user name and password. I will not be able to make changes to icam source for about 3 weeks time as I am currently out of the country but it will be interesting to find out more info about this issue in the short term then fix it when I get back home.

I tried freeing up some extra memory on my ipad by going into the multi task pane and closing everything. I also turned off all cloud sync functions. After that the icam app would just hang but not quit as it did before. Feeling hopeful I restarted the ipad. After restart I was sorry to see the icam app quits as usual. Crash logs have been emailed to the support email.
I guess it is not a memory issue. The app crashes exactly the same way on my ipad, iphone 3 and iphone 4.

iCam Support / icam app quits immediately

I have been running icam source with one wifi cam and the icam app on my iphone and ipad for over a year. Hats off to the icam team, once this software is configured it is a powerful tool.
So, I have been running just one wifi camera, a sharks brand product all this time. I just added another wifi camera, which is an old 3g iphone running the ip cam app. Everything works in terms of icam source recording motion events and showing the live feed when I look at the icam source preferences window running on my mac mini. I noticed initially that the app on my ios devices tended to quit a few seconds after opening especially when I attempt to access through 3g network but not as frequently when I opened the app while I was within my home network. Now I am out of the country and I noticed that when I try to open the app on my iphone or ipad again it still quits after a few seconds. I am in a wifi network when opening the app just not my home wifi network. I can see the live feed through icam web so I assume that everything is working on i cam source. I also see my recorded motion events in my drop box where the icam source is set to record so I feel confident that icam source is operational. The issue is that the icam app quits on my iphone and ipad within 20 seconds of opening the app before the live feeds are displayed. Again this started only after adding the second cam. I have successfully used the app with one camera running from overseas on previous trips and it worked fine.
Any advice appreciated.

I have two cameras running on icam source running on a mac mini. One a Sharks network camera which works perfectly showing live feed and recording motion events. I just added an iphone 3g running ip cam. The live feed shows in the icam source preferences screen but not from the icam source ipad or iphone apps. The live feed is just completely black for the iphone cam. Motion events are recording from the iphone cam just a black live feed screen is the only issue.
I have both cameras connected to the router via UpNp to a Netgear WGR614. I also have both cameras added to the address reservation list under the LAN tab of the router settings.
I have automatic port forwarding on the iphone ipcam app and get a UpNp success message, audio off and image quality relatively low to preserve band width. Any suggestions on something to try to make the live stream work. The live stream does not work wether I am inside or outside my home network except it does show on the i cam source preferences screen.
Update: I tried changing the ip cam listening port from 80 to 81 and live feed works!
At first I thought this step had no effect but then I quit and restarted icam source on the mac mini and the live feed started working!
