Final questions before buying iCam
« on: June 13, 2010, 09:23:27 AM »
Hi all, been reading this forum for a while. Really good to see all the support for this App.

what I want to do: Buy a wireless IP webcam with night vision to use as a nanny cam. Then use iCam in my iPhone 3GS. Running iMac with AirPort Extreme as router connected to internet cable modem.

Questions:

Can I setup the IP cam connected to the Airport Extreme? I will use my work PC windows laptop to do initial software setup.

After that, can I then use the cam wirelessly, and with my iMac and iPhone only?

Lastly with iPhone, output is only video no audio correct?

thanks,

Gelco

The setup you described should work just fine.  The Mac will need to be running iCamSource in order to view the webcam on your iPhone.  Since it's a network camera, you'll need to select the "Ethernet / Wi-Fi" tab in iCamSource and enter the MJPEG URL for the camera.  If the MJPEG or JPEG URL isn't something that can be found by searching around with Google or by contacting their support, we actually have another solution available, although it is currently in its very preliminary stages, and that is: http://skjm.com/icam/mjpeg_test.php

When you enter the camera's IP address and port into that web page, it will attempt to connect to the camera using all of the common MJPEG and JPEG URLs that we are aware of. If any of the URLs produce an image, then that is the URL to use in iCamSource.

If your camera requires a login and password, you can enter them in that webpage right before the address :  login:password@Camera_address

iCamSource supports video-only (no audio) for IP cameras.
