Video is: Normal in 25% view but slow in 100% view
« on: July 28, 2009, 10:02:46 PM »
Hello.

First of all this is a really great app.

I've got everything setup. I'm using Logitech QC Pro 9000. The video in icamSource (on the PC) is realtime, there is no lag. On my iphone, when I view the cam in 25% view The video is good, there is no lag, but when I tap the cam stream to make it full screen, the video lags so much.

So why is video perfectly fine in small view and lags really bad in full view?

couple of things:
There is only one cam on the stram
And I am using Wifi right now, and I haven't tested it on 3G yet.

look forward to hearing from you!
Thanks

Stefan

When zoomed in the image is obviously larger so there is more data to send, and also you are most likely sending audio data as well. If you turn off audio in iCam, does that help? What kind of lag or frame rate are you experiencing, in terms of approximate seconds?

hey thanks for the response.

I'm getting >1 framerate per second. Like it's really choppy, the frame updates really slow and like I said I only get about 1 FPS.

This is with the audio disabled. Actually audio doesn't have much affect on the performance.

Exact same problem.  Just bought the program and thought this was normal as it's redirecting the video to icam servers and then into my phone.  Great stuff but understably slow.  Would love it if you were able to improve the speed.  If someone is walking in and out of a room I see the person in the room and then disappear. Pretty funny looking.

BTW using acer aspire one netbook.

The video is not actually sent to our servers. It is sent directly from the iCamSource to iCam on your iPhone. The iCam Broker Server is merely used to "broker" the establishment of the connection between the iCamSource and iCam.

I also have the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 and in 32-bit Windows XP Pro I am unable to reproduce this issue. The Windows version of the iCamSource requires the following pre-requisites to be installed, so maybe installing them will have a positive effect:

Visual C++ Redistributable Package: http://skjm.com/icam/vcredist_x86.exe
.NET Framework: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6&displaylang=en

Hi All,
Well after reformatting my computer and updating XP (even non critical updates)
everything seems to be normal.

Make sure to update .NET framework using windows update.

Hopefully you won't have to go to the extent of reformatting your computers,
but I did have other underlying issues besides the slow frame rate...

Video frame rate is not always going to be fast, but it's definitely a lot better than
what I previously had.

thanks

Hi everyone, and thanks to the developers for such an amazing app!

I'm new to the app, just bought it, but immediately stumbled upon this thread as this is also my only issue.

I'm on a MacBook Pro with 10.5.8, and a 32GB iPhone 3GS (iPhone OS 3.0.1). My camerasources are the built-in iSight on my MBP, and the built-in iSight on my desktop computer, which is an iMac.

So when I'm on my iPhone and in iCam, and when I'm looking at both my sources, my MBP is actually sending (=uploading) data at ≈122KB/s. When I choose the MBP iSight on iCam my upload speed from my MBP immediately drops to 10-30KB/s.
Also, immediately, when I doubletap in iCam on my iPhone, the speed goes up to 122KB/s, give or take a couple of KB's.
So my computer is sending ≈4 x the amount of data when I'm looking at both sources which I find strange.
Nevertheless, an absolutely amazing app and I hope that it will evolve and get even better during its lifespan.

Also, having audio on/off doesn't affect the issue at all. And I'm on the same wifi with all devices.

Feel free to ask me anything if I haven't given enough info for you guys to troubleshoot efficiently!

Interesting ... I see a similar result at home as well.

I will look into it further, but it is probably due to the fact that the iCamSource spends less time processing the smaller images and is therefore able to send more images at a higher frame rate than when zoomed in. I am assuming this only happens when you are connected to the same local network via WiFi, correct?
