iCam Support / Re: using icamsource mobile
« on: December 17, 2013, 09:30:37 AM »
I thought ios (at least ios7) could run multi-task at same time. First, run icamsource mobile and put it in background, then open icam to view. No?  Too bad.

ios7 can, but not like that. It definitely can't run a camera in the background either. :/

Limiting certain users because there are some people out there using computers made in the 90's seems backwards. Could there be an option for ticking a little box that enables this feature? I don't mind VGA on two of my cameras, but it would be nice to use 720p on my front porch camera to help identify individuals knocking on my door. I've gone back and forth on other options/competitors, because I feel limited by the current choices with iCam. It's 2013 and I'm limited to 640x480, come on... I would gladly pay an extra $5 to have a version that can pump out better video at the expense of my CPU's...
Not trying to sound harsh, just curious why it doesn't seem to be an issue for other options (even though they don't have the features you do, which is why I stay :) )

I see the SKJM support posting in other threads, did I miss something? Just wondering what my options are and how to move forward and make this as plain as day. If we're limited to MPEG and JPEG transfer, do none of the HD cameras transfer video in that? If they're HD, they transfer in H.264, which is something icam has talked about doing for over a year now, but is tough to implement (I get it :) ). So more or less, no HD options at this point?

So after searches upon searches, it appears as if I'll be limited to 640X480 until further notice. Or is it only for the images being saved and not the actual video?

iCam Support / 720p options?
« on: July 29, 2013, 10:35:01 PM »
So what are my options for 720p? We've had some interesting people knocking on our door and we're planning a two week vacation in three months. I have a 720p webcam sitting on my computer, facing the front door, but two 8918s on the porch/back porch. I'd like to get something with better quality looking into the driveway and for earlier detection. Running an ethernet cable isn't out of the question. I've done some reading about the 9820 and 9821 cameras, but it appears there are some issues with them. Is it time to find a new app that supports h.264? Or do I need to string ethernet cables all throughout my attic? Give it to me in simpleton terms so I can start making this happen. I've been very happy with iCam for the past couple of years and have "sold" several friends on it who now use it, but I feel like we're in a day and age that need to be compatible with HD.

Thanks y'all!

edit: If I'm stuck with non-HD cameras, what is my best option, foscam wise? The 8910?

I just saw this: http://foscam.us/forum/how-to-set-fi9821w-stream-1-to-jpeg-for-security-spy-t5085.html

So probably doesn't stream 720p. Maybe I'll run an ethernet cable over to the front porch, grrrrrr

iCam Support / Re: Ipad as source camera
« on: April 22, 2013, 01:59:19 PM »
I have purchased icam. My intention is to use one ipad as the source camera and view it on the other ipad or the iPhone. Is this possible? I have read a lot but most solutions seem very outdated. So, I am looking for the most up to date solution.
Thank you in advance for any and all help.

Are you looking to use the iPad as a camera? This should be pretty easy. download an app for use as an ipcam, that should create a URL for you to use on your iphone

I'm VERY curious about this. Would like a 720p camera on my front porch and have been eyeing this exact camera on amazon for a couple of weeks now...

I was able to run a couple of old iPhones setup with power supplies and mini tripods. Wasn't as reliable as a foscam, but it worked anyways

kinda wondering the same thing, would love to be able to put my iMac to sleep while I'm gone during the day, letting the netbook handle all the business. Plus I want to look into a backup battery in case power is cut or it goes out due to the weather. I have a dell mini 10v that i don't use, maybe I'll give this a shot next week sometime...

iCam Support / camera names on notifications
« on: January 27, 2013, 11:27:25 PM »
Not sure if this has been requested in the past or if it's even possible. But it would be super awesome if you could name each camera (living room, front porch, back door) and when there is motion detected, sending a notification to my iPhone, it would tell me which camera is detecting motion. My front porch gets notifications fairly often in the evenings if someone is driving down the alley with their headlights on. If I'm still at work, I generally wouldn't check iCam if I knew it was that camera sending me the notifications. I know I could turn it off or do other things, but it would be helpful if the notifications told me which camera was prompting them.

I've done this before, doesn't work half bad actually, just sucks to have a charger and tripod system setup all the time.

seems like something that may or may not hog system resources. I do like the idea though, especially since many thieves are cutting power to the house before breaking in. I'm hoping to get a backup for my modem and iMac to get around this, but until then, something like this might be helpful :)

If, by random chance, you're using a jailbroken phone. There is a jailbreak tweak to allow custom sounds for ANY app. It's called PushTone, probably worth checking out if you have the option.
