They make a small unit (about the size of a pack of cards) that turns your car into a wireless hot spot.  There is a monthly fee, of course.  I think I read that it runs about $40 a month for unlimted 3G data.  Some companies (if they survive) are going to build them into cars, but you can also buy a device on your own.  If you are going to be traveling, always a nice feature to be able to send emails and photos and watch YouTube videos while driving down the road with a trailer.

iCam works great for me wireless, 3G and E, though there can be intermitent sound drops on E.  Just a speed thing, I imagine.  In the worst cases, E will take a while to conntect.  Video on E can be about 1 frame per second.

Thanks.  I'll try those things.  I used to have it plugged into one of the monitor's extra ports and then moved it to the CPU box with the same results.  I did just run iCam on another computer (a near twin to the Dell giving my problems) and it ran fine for over 12 hours.  It is obviously some issue with my computer or software installed on the machine.  I'll keep searching it done.  If I find something relevent, I'll post my results.

It is not the standard BSD.  It says something like "If this is the first time you've seen this screen, try rebooting your computer . . . "

The webcam is running for several hours before it crashes (5 or 6 hours seems to do it).  Today, I checked it moments before the crash (on my iPhone) and then decided I was letting it stay on too long and tried to log on at home, through the Cisco VPN, to shut it down, but I was too late and could not log on.  Getting home, I see the blue screen.  Again, it has happened every time I let the program run for several hours (somewhere around six hours).  My computer runs 24/7 without the program on.  I've just checked the version of .NET running and it appears to be .NET CLR 3.5.30729 as the last release.  I'll check for something more current.  If others are not reporting a similar problem, it must be something unique about my system.  Thanks.

iCam Support / Blue Screen

Anyone out there experiencing a blue screen.  I've been running iCam all day long to see how it goes.  On both days, after several hours of running iCam, my computer crashed and went to blue screen.  I can't find anything too odd in the event logs.  XP with Logitech 9000 Pro.  Anyone with a similar experience?  And a solution?

This app is so fabulous that I hate to ask for more.  Getting sound on the iPhone was a great addition.  Of course, running the app on the iPhone does burn through the battery (still great for a quick check is what you surely intended).  Sound on the icamweb site would be great.  I say that with no idea of what might be involved.

What is your next big app?  A mobile video-phone app?  Sending video and audio live from my iPhone to other iPhones or to iCamWeb?

Thanks for the info.  As I mentioned, ManyCam worked for me when I tried it once on my Windows computer, but that's not exactly comprehensive testing  :)

Does iCamSource work correctly when you use it with a standard built-in or USB webcam?

I solved my problem.  If my Cisco VPN client is running, then iCam won't work.  If I start iCam first, then bring up the VPN - even using ManyCam to capture video (using the desktop mode) from a VPN connection, all works fine.

Well, before I did anything else, I launched the application again and sorprise! It is working now. Thanks for the help.

My iCamsource also stopped working occasionally.  I finally figured out that it was due to my Cisco VPN client.  I'm running the latest version but you still have to be sure to turn off the VPN, bring up iCam, and then log back into the VPN.  If you follow that order, it works fine.

I tried CamTwist, it worked fine for me.  On Windows, there's a program called ManyCam that does the same thing. 

With both of these programs, you can have your desktop (or just a portion of your desktop, like a window) show up as a webcam to the OS.  I tried both of them with iCamSource on Mac and Windows, and they both worked for me.

Sadly, using ManyCam on Win XP seems to break iCam, requiring a reboot to get it working again.  ManyCam is a great tool.  I can use it with Skype on calls, but it crashes my iCam.  FIXED IT.  The problem was caused with my Cisco VPN client.  You need to connect iCam first, then bring up the VPN.  All works well as long as you start with iCam first.
