Connections to triple-play
« on: November 01, 2012, 05:28:04 AM »
Hi,

I am a relative novice at this.

I am based in Sweden and currently subscribed to triple-play which offers 100Mbps bandwidth.
I have been searching for the easiest (and secure) way to set up a house security camera system.
And i came across iCam and have some questions:

1. What is the ease of connection of connecting iCam to my camera(s) over the IP via triple-play? I am concern about firewalls setup by the provider which may require some expert configuration to enable iCam connection. I am currently using a Mac at home, and has a wifi network setup.

2. I have an IP camera from Vivotek... will this work with iCam and over the network. The model number is Vivotek PZ8121W PTZ WiFi

3. Does my Mac need to be turned on for iCam to work?

Would appreciate your advice.
Thanks.

/ Victor

1. Please see the "Getting Started" section of the iCam Help pages here: http://skjm.com/icam/help/

2. iCam supports Built-In, FireWire or USB Webcams and DV Cameras as well as select MJPEG-compatible Network IP Cameras. According to your camera's specifications (http://www.cmac-cctv.co.uk/vivotek-pz8121w-ptz-wifi-internal-ip-camera-91-p.asp) it does support MJPEG formatted data, so it'll probably work with iCamSource. - http://skjm.com/icam/help/

3. Yes, make sure that your computer isn't configured to go into Sleep or Hibernate mode after a period of inactivity. If your computer is asleep, the iCamSource will not be actively running, and you will not be able to connect.
