Can't get 2 cameras going at the same time
« on: October 21, 2009, 07:54:05 AM »
I have my iSight camera on iMac & that's working fine. But when I open a copy of icamsource & try to start a USB camera, it won't work. I have to turn one camera on & then one off. Why can't I get both going at the same time?

Do you have any other USB devices plugged into the iMac at the same time? If so, you might try unplugging them.

A small number of users have experienced this kind of issue, and we believe it has something to do with the power required by the multiple cameras along the USB bus. What is the make and model of the USB camera?  Do the two webcams work simultaneously with any other applications, say running Photo Booth and iChat at the same time, choosing a separate camera in each?

I was having the same problem and seem to have it fixed.  I have 2 USB ports on my macbook pro.  The one on the right hand side of the mac is on the same high-speed USB bus as the iSight.  The one on the left is on a separate bus.  Only one camera will work on a single bus.

Hi

I'm having the same problem: intel imac with isight and logitech quickcam fusion. One works or the other but not both at the same time, or at least I can't see where the option is for both at once, unless I've missed something fundamental. I've tried disconnecting other attached usb devices without success.

thanks

Andrew

I am assuming that you are running two iCamSources and choosing a different camera for each one, correct? Have you tried choosing the "No Audio" option for both iCamSources to see if that helps?

We believe that the issue in these cases in the computer's USB bus not being able to handle to bandwidth of two webcams streaming both audio and video at the same time.

Hello
I've just downloaded Icamsource again and installed it and presto! two icons in the task bar! And two screens showing up in the iphone.

It wasn't clear to me to download twice. Newbie.

All fine now.

thanks

Andrew
