Network / IP Camera Compatibility / Foscam FI8608W
« on: January 24, 2012, 05:23:06 AM »
New unit for Foscam. Pretty decent. It is H.264 so it differs from the prior FI8910W -- which works great with pan/tilt, by the way.

It also has N networking, so it's a worthwhile upgrade from the earlier units.

I am SOL because of the H.264? I'm finding more and more the newer units are moving that way.

2.4.0.3 has been stable all day. Prior, 2.4 couldn't go 3 hours without a crash. So far, so good. And the speed is much more like prior versions

on Mac...since upgrading to 2.4 on source, constant crashes. App quits probably 10 times a day so try the iphone app and no sources running...

just downgraded back to 2.2.3
connects to cams faster (4) and is more stable so far

iCam Support / Re: Any plans for a desktop version of iCam?

We don't have any immediate plans, but if we get additional requests that may be something we develop in the future.  :)

Simple desktop version would be great. Better still with View Motion Events, which the web interface does not have.

Also, multiple log-in ability would be nice (e.g, switch between different username/password sets)

I have found that cameras like the Axis 207mw -- now discontinued -- as well as other IP based wifi/ethernet cams from Axis can be set up using a mac only

connect the mac by ethernet directly to the cam's ethernet. The cam should show up in bonjour (under Safari) and can be set up by browser from there

Not sure on the Linksys.

Audio over IP cameras would be excellent, especially with visual audio levels (audio off but bar levels like on many nanny cams) and with audio alerts.

Second, may not be possible in any sense but integration with VitaminD video. Might be more on their side but the ability to use icam recorded video with the VitaminD processing and review features would be absolutely excellent. Might be worthwhile talking to them before the develop their own iPhone app

Got to say, I've been having problems too. One cam is fine. Add another and it screws everything up. I used to have 3 running no problem.

And both cams are wired and I have 5 mbit up but even on wifi, one only

+1

Ability to have more than 4 cams in the window might be cool too.

Try using Fluid. I use it. Certainly not the same as a native app (which could have persistent username/password which would be very nice) but worthwhile.

"Fluid lets you create a Site Specific Browser (SSB) out of any website or web application, effectively turning your favorite web apps into desktop apps"

Was using dropbox but it was generating an extra chunk of constant extra traffic. Love dropbox. Might return to using it for iCam.

iCam Support / Recent QC issues
« on: March 22, 2010, 05:16:27 PM »
For the past few days and today not all of my 3 cams have been showing up. Sometimes one or two, never the same ones and never all three. Worked fine last week. Updated all to newest software today. Same. Sometimes get the Source Connection error, sometimes I don't.

Finding the cams after launch of the iPhoto app seems to take longer and longer...

Have done the usual, reboots, etc. Mac with 2 network, 1 usb.

Anything going on in terms of your side?

No idea what to do next. Was a great app. Becoming less so...

Thanks. Any possibility of adding the ability to view motion events on the web?

I'd like to see a CAPTCHA or some other security on the web based access. Be too easy to run automated username/password combination software.

Any others besides the SkyIPCam747W? Doesn't seem to be in stock on their website or Amazon

Huge +1 for audio support on the Axis 207W. I know a whole host of parents who would use that particular model as a nanny cam with iCam but it absolutely needs audio support.

Also, motion support is excellent but adding in a push notification for exceeding an audio threshold would make iCam truly the best baby monitor around.
