Title: Troubleshooting 102 - Source Connection Error
Post by: Stefan on August 12, 2009, 01:40:32 PM

UPDATE - We have a new Troubleshooting (http://skjm.com/icam/help/troubleshooting.php) page that should help explain the possible causes and solutions for many of the more common connection issues: http://skjm.com/icam/help/troubleshooting.php

PLEASE NOTE : If you are looking to troubleshoot any error message other than the Source Connection Error then please start here: http://skjm.com/forum/index.php?topic=174.0

The Source Connection Error message indicates that both iCam and the iCamSource are able to connect to the iCam Broker Server, but they are unable to connect to one another.

There are a number of reasons why iCam and the iCamSource might be unable to connect. Please find the description below that best describes your situation.

1) If you are receiving the Source Connection Error when your iPhone is connected via 3G/EDGE but you ARE able to connect via WiFi

This is the most common connectivity problem that we see with iCam. The issue is that generally both the mobile and computer networks use a complex port translation technique, making it one of the few cases where iCam doesn't "just work" out of the box.

Version 1.4.2.6 BETA and later of the iCamSource may resolve this problem.  If you are running 1.4.2.5 or earlier, the new BETA version of iCamSource is available for download at:

Windows:  http://skjm.com/icam/iCamSetup1.4.2.6.exe
Mac:  http://skjm.com/icam/iCamSource1.4.2.6.dmg

If you check the Auto-Config Router checkbox (in version 1.4.2.6 and later) before clicking the Start button, the iCamSource will attempt to automatically forward a port in your router. When you click the Start button, a status message should appear above the "Auto-Config Router Port" checkbox.  If you are still getting the Source Connection Error, make sure that your router has either UPnP or NAT-PMP enabled. If you are still having problems, please send an email to support@skjm.com with the status message.

If that doesn't resolve the problem, there is another solution, and that involves forwarding ports in your router to the computer running the iCamSource.

For step-by-step instructions on how to forward ports in your router, please click here: http://skjm.com/forum/index.php?topic=402.0

2) If you are receiving the Source Connection Error when your iPhone is connected via WiFi but you ARE able to connect via 3G/EDGE

You may have more than one router on your network, each generating their own sub-networks that may not be able to connect to one another. One solution is to put the router that is not directly connected to the modem into "bridge" mode so as to not have it generate its own sub-network.

3) If you are receiving the Source Connection Error when your iPhone is connected via both WiFi and 3G/EDGE

Make sure that you are running the latest versions of iCam and the iCamSource from http://skjm.com/icam/support.php and that any security or firewall software on your computer is allowing the iCamSource to accept incoming connections. (On Mac OS X 10.5 the setting is under System Preferencess > Security > Firewall)

TIP : To test whether or not your iPhone can connect via 3G/EDGE you can temporary turn off WiFi in your iPhone's Settings, forcing it to connect via 3G/EDGE.

Still receiving the Source Connection Error? If so, then if you could go to http://whatismyipaddress.com/ from the computer running the iCamSource and e-mail support@skjm.com (support@skjm.com?subject=iCam "Source Connection Error" Message) what is says your computer's external IP address is in addition to the description above that best describes your situation then we will attempt to further troubleshoot your problem.

Thanks! :)

Hi there.

First off, great app. I downloaded the app on my iPhone and then iCamSource on my laptop and was immediately able to see my webcam over my home Wifi network.
Second of all, well done on the troubleshooting guides.  I ran into the following problems and solved it using the guides (http://skjm.com/forum/index.php?topic=403.0 and http://skjm.com/forum/index.php?topic=402.0):

For those with short attention spans, just look at step 19.

1. Installed iCamSource on my laptop, entered login and password for my camera and started feed.

2. Opened iCam on the iPhone, entered same login and password and could see my webcam video using my home Wifi connection.

3. Tried to do Push Notifications on Motion Detecting but got the error "Please Note : Sending Push Notifications on Motion Detection has been turned off as there is currently no 'Push on Motion' iCam associated with this account."  This occurred whether or not Push Notifications were selected in iCamSource or through iCam.

4. Turned off Wifi on my iPhone (Settings => Wi-Fi) and tried connecting to the webcam using Edge/GPRS.  Got a Source Connection Error saying "One or more of the iCamSources returned by the iCam Broker Server could not be connected to."

5. Opened up my ZoneAlarm Free and saw that iCamSource.exe was fully authorised.

6. Scratched head.

7. Stopped iCamSource webcam feed on my laptop and enabled Port Forwarding to 12000 to 12100 range.

8. Followed the instructions for port forwarding for my router (http://portforward.com/).

9. Downloaded PFPortChecker from http://portforward.com to check that my ports were open.  They weren't.

10. Decided it must be ZoneAlarm so shut it down (right click on ZoneAlarm in system tray - Shutdown ZoneAlarm).

11. Enabled Windows Firewall (Start => Control Panel => Windows Firewall) and then clicked the Exceptions tab.

12. Added iCamSource.exe as a program (Add Program ... => Browse).

13. Reopened iCam on my iPhone.  I can now see my webcam over Edge/GPRS and can also receive Push Notifications on Motion Detection.

14. Pondered whether or not I could get ZoneAlarm Free to work too.

15. Reopened ZoneAlarm Free and clicked on Firewall => Main.  Set Internet Zone Security to Medium.

16. Tested ports using PFPortChecker.  Ports were open.

17. Tried connecting to webcam over EDGE/GPRS and home Wifi.  Was able to view webcam and receive Push Notifications.

18. Added another camera to my girlfriend's laptop but couldn't get the Push Notifications to work or view the camera over the second wireless router in her room.

19. Had a brainwave.  Maybe its just ZoneAlarm Free and nothing to do with the ports.  Deleted all port forwarding settings on my iCamSource, her iCamSource, my router and her router.  Set both my and her ZoneAlarm Free Internet Zone Security to Medium.

20.  Bingo, notifications and video work for both cams on my wifi, her wifi, EDGE and GPRS.

Woohoo!

Hi, i have been reading all the posts but dont seem to be able to make it work.
I cannot connect even at home, when on the same wifi network.
I dont have either 3g o edge to try.
Firewall is enables and allows icam, but also tried turning off firewall.
Icam v1.1.2 and source v1.3.6 .

Thanks for any advice you may have.

chap - iCamSource 1.3.6 requires iCam version 1.2.1.  You can get the latest version of iCam from the Appstore.

I am having the same problems where I can connect when on wifi, but on 3g it gives me the source connection error. Read the port forwarding post and followed the directions, for some reason when i go to the port checking site, 12000 - 12004 are fine and open, but for 12005 it says that there is an error binding to port 12005. All the programs are up to date, I just ordered everything less than a week ago. Tried turning off firewall as well to no avail. Any suggestions?
Title: Re: Troubleshooting 102 - Source Connection Error
Post by: Stefan on December 08, 2009, 11:00:28 AM
If the port checker can't bind to port 12005 then the iCamSource is probably running and using that port. :)

What make and model router do you have? Recently we have discovered that some Belkin routers don't act as they are supposed to when UDP port fowarding is enabled, causing issues when connecting from 3G even with port forwarding enabled.

We've e-mailed Belkin and have yet to receive a response.

I am troubleshooting as per this sections instructions.  I have gotten as far as the port range forwarding on the games and applications page of my router.  I am not sure what IP address I should put in.  I am running an Lynksys WRT400N from a cable modem to a wireless computer running icamsource   How do I find the correct IP address to enter?
Title: Re: Troubleshooting 102 - Source Connection Error

You should enter the private IP address of the computer running iCamSource.  Your computer's IP address is in the network settings.  If you don't know your way around those settings, it might be easier to use the IP checker available here: http://www.auditmypc.com/anonymous-surfing.asp   That page has a box that contains information about your computer.  The private IP address is at the bottom of that box.  The private IP address will probably start with a 192 or a 10.

Portforwarding in my router and poking a hole in the Mac OS X firewall perfectly did the trick for me. Thanks for a great step-by-step tutorial.

Unfortunately that is one of the Belkin models that other users have had issues with when it comes to port forwarding. We have still not heard back from Belkin with this issue.

It is definitely possible, but it hasn't been high up on our list because most users simply use it with a single webcam.

After the New Year we'll be reviewing what features to implement next, so that may be one of them. :)

I just added my cameras to my computer, it works great on my wifi itouch when i am in the same room on the same network in my business. When I am in a different area of the office, on a different wifi network. i get the source connection error. I have done everything. I am only able to use wifi being an itouch. to summarize, when in the same room and on the network that the cameras are on, it works great. The moment I go to a different wifi network, i get the error. What seems to be the problem and what is the fix.

Not sure if this has been answered yet, i did however see a similar reply on this post. First of all, love the app! Well worth the money, my problem now lies elsewhere. I am running windows 7, with an ipod touch 2nd gen.  I can connect to my cameras at home over my wifi network and see/hear them just fine! However I get this error message when i go to another wifi network other than my home network. Here is the intersting part, I have another instance of iCam Source running on my computer in Dallas (my home network and myself are in Denton) which works just fine from anywhere i go ; in other words, if i am at my dallas network they work, they also work in denton at my home network and any barnes and noble at the mall in inrving LOL!. So when I log on to my cameras, which are all on the same username and password, i only receive feeds from the iCam Source in dallas and not the ones in my home network in denton WHEN im outside my denton network. I hope all that made sense.  :P

Thanks guys! hope to get a reply or link to solutons!

;D So what new features are comming soon and when can we expect them!?  ;D

The issue sounds like your home network ... Do you possibly have more than one router on the network? It seems that the iCamSources on your home network are not able to accept connections from outside of that network, and having two routers (or a router and a DSL modem/router) that are both running DHCP services is commonly the problem.

Great product, wireless connection issue.  At home, have no problem accessing camera on an iMac, both wireless or 3G (Verizon FIOS router).  From work however, only 3G access, no wireless.  Same issue with iCam installed on work Mac computer - no wireless, "Source Connection Error".   Work is using an Apple Airport Extreme connected to a Sonic Wall device.  The Apple Airport is in bridge mode to the Sonic firewall.   Get motion push notifications fine when on wireless, but then need to turn off wireless to access cams ro review motion logs.

I'm having trouble getting this to work outside my in-house network.

I've done all of the steps you suggested.

Details:
1.  Both iPhone and IPad work on my wireless network with the iCamSource running on my Mac
2.  I have the firewall on my Mac turned off, since I have a separate firewall.
3.  I have setup the ports (12000-12100) in your application
4.  I have done everything listed, and that I can think of to open up the SonicWall TZ170 ports
5.  Nothing I've done to my firewall seems to make the iPhone work from the outside (3G/Edge).
6.  I also noticed when I have the Port Forwarding turned on in iCamSource, the iPad and iPhone don't work any longer on the wireless network.

Thanks for any help on this.

garydbeck - If your router is already configured for port forwarding for iCamSource, I would like to try and confirm that your port forwarding is functioning as we expect it to. If you visit this link on the computer running iCamSource...

http://portchecker.net/udp.php?p=12000

... it will open a webpage that contains a Java Applet in it (similar to iCamWeb) that will be able to listen on port 12000 for a UDP packet to be sent from a server on the Internet to your computer. If your port forwarding is functioning correctly then you should see a message saying that the port is open. If it is not functioning correctly, it should say that it is blocked.
Title: Re: Troubleshooting 102 - Source Connection Error
Post by: Jay on April 27, 2010, 02:03:59 AM
therichman68 - There are two potential causes for the No Sources Found error:

1) The login and password on the iCamSource and iCam do not match. (Please note that they are both case sensitive.)
2) The iCamSource on the computer is unable to communicate with the iCam Broker Server.

If you have made sure that the computer's firewall software is "allowing" the iCamSource to communicate with the Internet, then the next step is to go to http://whatismyipaddress.com/ on the computer running iCamSource and e-mail me what it says the computer's external IP address is so that I can further troubleshoot the problem.  Please send the computer's IP address to support@skjm.com.  Please refer to this forum post in your email.

I keep getting this error but only intermittenly. I get it 99% of the time when using iCam with my laptop with built in webcam and not really too often when using my desktop with a USB webcam. Also, when this does happen with my desktop, I get a Visual Studio Just-In-Time Debugger error:
An unhandled win32 exception occured in iCamSource.exe[4228]. Just-In-Time debugging this exception failed with the following error: No installed debugger has Just-In-Time debugging enabled. In Visual Studio, Just-In-Time debugging can be enabled from Tools/Options/Debugging/Just-In-Time.

Title: Re: Troubleshooting 102 - Source Connection Error
Post by: Jay on May 08, 2010, 01:11:59 AM
jpwrnglr - Do you see that error when your iPhone is connected to 3G or to the local Wi-Fi network?

Please quit or disable any firewall software on the computer running iCamSource (temporarily) to see if iCam starts working.  If it does, we can configure your firewall to work with iCam.

Do you perhaps have more than one router on the network that the iCamSource is connected to? What is the make and model of your router(s) and cable or DSL modem? (Some modems also do act as routers.)

I tried disabling my firewall and still having source connection problems. iCam has full access in my firewall. I tried the port forwarding. My modem is just a plain cable modem (Surfboard SB4100). My router is a Belkin N Wireless Router F5D8236-4.  Sometimes it works for a few min most of the time it doesn't. So far not very happy with this progam.
My ip address for the iPhone is 166.137.136.196

Unfortunately, there is a bug in the port forwarding logic in that particular router model (F5D8236-4), so there isn't much we can do other than to submit a bug report to Belkin (which we've done in the past).  Port forwarding is supposed to bypass the router's port translation, but in this particular model, it does not.  This is the only router model we've ever seen with this behavior.

The strange thing is, we've tested the new version of iCamSource with Belkin routers, and it doesn't require port forwarding with the new network protocol.  Are you running the latest version of iCamSource (1.4.2.5)?

One test you can do to verify that the router is the cause of the problem is to connect your computer directly to your modem with an ethernet cable (temporarily).  If iCam works, that indicates the problem is with the router.

I had this error for a couple weeks. Could not figure out what it was, the network/server config had not changed but all of a sudden, I experienced intermittent behavior with Source Connection Error messages both in iCam app and in iCamWeb across multiple iPhones and computers. I finally resolved it by manually clearing out the Motion Events folders on the server. In fact, I had iCam and iCamWeb open while I was clearing out these folders and as each folder was emptied, the camera associated with that folder started working.....one after another until they all were back to normal.

Some other details: Motion Events folders are 500 MB, plenty of HD space, 4 cams total, Server is a Mac Mini running 10.5.8 Server, I'm using the latest iCam Source and iCam app, Cams are Linksys WVC54GCA.

Hi
I can see my webcams on my own wifi and with 3G on my iPhone.

The problem is I can't make it work at my parents home on there wifi. 3g works but I only have 500mb so i would rather used wifi. They have an linksys wrt310n router. I tried to disable firewall, no luck.

I will want to used this app on hotel wifi when traveling, will this work or this app only works with 3G?

Note : my parents wifi has the same name and password has mine, just in case it's possible this could cause a mix up.

Try putting your iPhone in the DMZ on your parent's network. If you're able to view your sources then, you'll know it's a setting in their router.

Herba - If iCam works correctly on your local Wi-Fi, but not on a remote network, the most common reason for the Source Connection Error is that the home and remote networks use a complex port translation technique. There is a solution, however, and that involves you forwarding ports in your router to your computer running the iCamSource. There's more information about using port forwarding with iCamSource here:  http://skjm.com/forum/index.php?topic=402.0

tono1110 - In your other post you said you were seeing the "No Sources Found" message.  If you are seeing the Source COnnection Error (not the No Sources Found error), there is a new BETA version (1.4.2.6) of iCamSource that might resolve your problem.  The new BETA version of iCamSource is available for download at:

Windows:  http://skjm.com/icam/iCamSetup1.4.2.6.exe

Mac Version - http://skjm.com/icam/iCamSource1.4.2.6.dmg

If you could check the Auto-Config Router checkbox before clicking the Start button, the iCamSource will attempt to automatically forward a port in your router. When you click the Start button, what status message appears above the Auto-Config Router Port checkbox?

I've tried this beta and have the following to report:

1. This resolved an issue I had with accessing via wifi from a remote location. I did not have problems with 3g, just wifi from my work for example.
2. I attempted to use the Auto-Config Router Port option but this did not work correctly for me. I have two instances of iCamSource running for two different cameras on the same host. It appeared that one of the instances would correctly map to the router but the other one would not. It appeared to be whichever connected first. Not a big deal for me as it works fine with the portforwards in place on the firewall.

I never received an error message, but I was unable to connect to one of the cameras at the time. I don't think this was due to a problem with iCamSource now though. After a good router reboot and restarting the iCamSource instances, it is working now. Thanks!

On some Wifi connections the ICam works perfect.  However on some, like the Wifi offered at McDonalds, the cameras will not connect.  How to rectify this?

Jody1 - A lot of public Wi-Fi hotspots are very restricted.  Some will only allow web browsing and email.  The only thing you can do on your end is to make your computer's router as compatible as possible with other routers.  The way to do that is to forward ports to the computer running iCamSource.  We have a new BETA version of iCamSource that will attempt to configure your router for port forwarding automatically.  The new BETA version of iCamSource is available for download at:

Windows:  http://skjm.com/icam/iCamSetup1.4.2.6.exe

Mac:  http://skjm.com/icam/iCamSource1.4.2.6.dmg

Check the Auto-Config Router checkbox before clicking the Start button.  Then the iCamSource will attempt to automatically forward a port in your router.

When you click the Start button, what status message appears above the Auto-Config Router Port checkbox?

Lavorayfo - Are you seeing the Source Connection Error on your iPhone?  If so, do you see it when your iPhone is connected to 3G or to the local Wi-Fi network?

If you see that error on 3G, then the new BETA version of iCamSource (1.4.2.6) might resolve your problem.  The new BETA version of iCamSource is available for download at:

Windows:  http://skjm.com/icam/iCamSetup1.4.2.6.exe

Mac:  http://skjm.com/icam/iCamSource1.4.2.6.dmg

Jay,

I installed the new version but when I check the box to auto configure the port the camera does not transmit to the ipod.  When I leave it unchecked, it works as it did before.  Any other ideas?  Thanks for your help.

When you check the autoconfiguration in icamsource, you also have to enable uPNP on your router...then reboot your router and then possibly restart icamsource.

I recently returned to my home #2 from visiting my family and ran into this issue "2) If you are receiving the Source Connection Error when your iPhone is connected via WiFi but you ARE able to connect via 3G/EDGE" for one of two cameras I have setup in my separate homes. Each network has but one router each. Here are the specifics.

All hardware is running latest versions of icam and source.

iPhone #1 can view both homes via wifi from home #1 wifi.
iPhone #2 can view both homes via wifi from home #1 wifi.
iPhone #1 can only view home #2 from it's respective wifi and both homes via 3G.
Any idea how to be able to view both homes via wifi from home #2?

What are the make & model of your modems on each network? Some modems (especially DSL modems) also act as routers, so that might be the issue.

The Arris TM5026 is a telephony cable modem, correct? If so, it may also be acting as a router.

If you connect to your Linksys router and click on the Status menu item (along the top) is the Internet IP address the same as the one reported by http://whatismyipaddress.com/ or is is a 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x IP?

Are you able to view both iCamSources from home #2 if you use iCamWeb from the computer running the iCamSource? - http://skjm.com/icam/web/

Have you tried unplugging and re-plugging in your modem (Arris) and router (Linksys)? Do either of them have any built-in firewall functionality that might be blocking the outgoing connections from iCam?

I can view both homes via the website listed i've unplugged both modem and router from home#2 i just updated to the new version iPhone software and still only able to receive Home #2 on my iPhone #1.

I did noticed that i'm still receiving motion detection from home #1 even though i can't view it!?!?!? I'm ready to give up lol and sorry for the hassle... i'm going to try and figure out if the is something blocking it somwhere in the router... what i don't understand is before the update to the new ican i was viewing it just fine... i'll report back with any changes good or bad.

Post by: Stefan on September 24, 2010, 08:27:20 PM
Have you tried using the Auto-Config Router checkbox in the home #1 iCamSource? There may be a logic bug in iCam that is preventing your WiFi-to-WiFi connection (there is one other user that has a similar issue) and it is dependent on how your two routers perform their port translation to the Internet.

Using the router auto-configuration or even forwarding ports in your home #1's router should be a work-around for the issue.

I'm not sure why I didn't think of checking the setup at home #1 sooner... This did in fact resolve the issue. However I did the same thing at home #2 and discovered that when doing so iPhone would only display home #1... any way... At least all works well now. Thank you putting up with me during this issue.  Thank you.

Hello,

I'm getting the source connection error only through the web interface.  I'm able to connect through my iPhone from outside my home network (using 3g).  It shows the "Num Sources:1" when I try to load through the web (both IE and Firefox), but then I get the source connection error.

This used to work fine on my same computer, but stopped when we moved from DSL to Comcast at home.  I don't see how it could work on my iPhone outside the network if it was having problems with the new home network.

I would be incredibly appreciative if you have any ideas!

Thanks,
Anthony

If you are getting the Source Connection Error when connecting from the same local network but you are able to connect via 3G then you most likely have more than one router on your network or a router that support multiple separate WiFi networks. Is the computer that you are attempting to connect with via iCamWeb connected to the same router as the computer running the iCamSource? (Or is it the same computer?)

Thanks for the response, Stefan.  The computer I'm trying to view through the web page is not on the same local network.  It is my work PC, which I've used successfully in the past.  That's why it is so strange that I can view no problem from outside my home network on the iPhone, but not through the web.  When I tested it last night I could view through the web no problem at home (on the same network).  I'm not having any other known issues with my browser at work.

Thanks,
Anthony

It may be an issue of your work network being more complex than normal, or perhaps your work network's configuration has changed. If there are multiple nested routers on your work network then you may also have an issue connecting.

Did you have ports forwarded at home when you were with DSL? Or perhaps your computer was the DMZ? When you changed internet connections at home did you also change routers? Or are you using the same router with a different modem?

I did forward ports with DSL.  When I changed internet connections I kept the same router (and router settings), but am using a cable modem instead of the DSL modem.  Is there any known issue that could keep the website from getting the video while still allowing the iPhone connectivity?

I keep thinking that it must be my work network configuration.  I will try to find another non-work external network to test the web interface with and see what happens.  I'll report back when I'm able to test it.

Thanks again!

If you forwarded ports in your router when you had DSL, I would visit the port checker link from the computer running the iCamSource to see if your router's port forwarding settings are still valid (to see if port 12000 is OPEN or BLOCKED): http://portchecker.net/udp.php?p=12000

Changed my password and connection problem went away.

It was working fine (original password was correct), then it stopped working randomly.  I tried everything (including port forwarding) and even though it said "Connected to Server" in iCam Source, I couldn't view the cam from my iPhone.

I changed the PW on the source (and then the phone) and then everything worked.

Hello there... I am one of the unfortunates, afflicted with the "source connection error" over 3G on my iphone. Everything works fine on my wifi network.

My setup: iCam 2.0.1 for iphone, and iCam Source 2.2.1 for windows. Running a webcam, cable modem (non-wifi), D-Link DIR-655, airport express (running as a client only), all over winXP. Avast antivirus, windows firewall.

I set up port forwarding on the D-Link, and confirmed it was open using the previously provided links. IP address is reserved via the router. I can see the cam on my wifi network, but not over 3G. Nor can I see the cam over the net using http://skjm.com/icam/web/ . Same error I get over 3G:

"One or more of the iCamSources returned by the iCam Broker Server could not be connected to."

Please Help.

Phil

Did you enable manual port forwarding in icamsource using the registry file? Are you sure you've set the same ports in icamsource as you are forwarding in your router?

You say the computer's IP address is reserved in the router. Have you confirmed that your computer is actually assigned that IP address? In other words, run CMD in Windows and type ipconfig to see the IP address assigned to your computer.
Title: Re: Troubleshooting 102 - Source Connection Error
Post by: mitsukuni on January 29, 2011, 03:51:15 PM
I did use the reg file to enable port forwarding. Ports are set the same in both apps: 12000-12100 under UDP.

Confirmed ip addy in ipconfig.

Thanks for the double checks. I was hoping for something simple too. I also temporarily turned off windows firewall. No joy. Any other suggestions?
Title: Re: Troubleshooting 102 - Source Connection Error
Post by: OUAnthony on January 29, 2011, 04:20:07 PM
Hmmm...that's odd. And you're forwarding those UPD ports to the IP address of your computer (not the camera if an IP camera)? How did you confirm the UDP ports were open?

Oh, also, have you tried rebooting everything? I remember that I had to reboot my router before the port forwarding took effect. I did it by unplugging it, not just a soft reboot. Not sure if that mattered, but maybe worth a try.
Title: Re: Troubleshooting 102 - Source Connection Error
Post by: mitsukuni on January 29, 2011, 06:44:52 PM
Yup, forwarding ports to the ip addy of my machine (verified in ipconfig). Confirmed open ports via http://portchecker.net/udp.php?p=12100.

Tried rebooting the desktop, and then did a hard restart of the router too, just to be thorough. Still no go. Connects via wifi no problem, but not via 3G. I did check the java web address again (from my computer), and it shows there too, but not via the iphone's app over 3G.

I'm stumped. Kind of useless to me without a 3G view... :(
Title: Re: Troubleshooting 102 - Source Connection Error
Post by: OUAnthony on January 29, 2011, 08:51:10 PM
Are you sure the router is forwarding the range of UDP ports and not just 12000 and 12100? I think each camera requires a range of 7 ports...so maybe if only 2 are being forwarded, it wouldn't work?

Or maybe your Internet provider is blocking UDP traffic? But if that was the case, I don't think the port checking website would be able to confirm the ports as open. Very strange. I'm leaning towards some issue having to do with port forwarding. What is the model of your router? I think there was a specific Linksys that didn't forward ports correctly. But again, if that was the case, I'm not sure the port forwarding site would've been able to confirm the open ports.

You said the icam web view works, right? Do you have a jailbroken iPhone? Do you have a firewall program installed on your iPhone?
Title: Re: Troubleshooting 102 - Source Connection Error
Post by: mitsukuni on January 29, 2011, 10:09:51 PM
Hmmmm... I'll check the ports in between and update...

Router is D-Link DIR-655, pretty popular model so if there was some compatibility issue, it'd show by now?

Yes, icam view web view works (at least it does on my network, but it is a web addy, so it should work anywhere. right?) And the iCam app shows me a view on my ip4 while I'm on my wifi network.

Nope, iphone is not Jailbroken, and is not running a firewall program.

Thanks for the help so far... really appreciate it!

Cheers
Phil

Okay, just an update: I did some random port checking, from 12000 all the way to 12100, and all seemed open...

Also, I tried putting my computer in the "DMZ" (demilitarized zone) of my router, which made no difference. Then I turned off my firewall altogether. No difference. Hmmmm....
Title: Re: Troubleshooting 102 - Source Connection Error

I'm not sure how that website (portchecker.net) checks the port...it might be doing the check locally (on your computer and not the router) instead of over the Internet (through the router). Try downloading PFPortChecker (free from portforward.com) to check over the Internet that the port is open. I use this program myself, and someone else has recommended it in a previous post. Just make sure that you allow it to communicate through your firewall so it can perform the check. Once you install it and run it, just make sure you select UDP. If it still says the port is open, then I'm not sure what the heck is going on. Maybe try uninstalling icamsource, clearing the registry with SKJM's icamsource registry cleaner file, then reinstalling icamsource and re-entering the manual port forwarding information. I know that's a pain, but that's all I can think of at this point, other than possibly having a setting wrong in your router or on your computer somewhere.

I have Stefan helping via email now, but thanks again for all your suggestions. I did try the port checker program, and it did indeed show that only 12000 was open... (I poked some more holes in my firewall and then saw the ports open, but still no joy over 3G). I'll update this thread when we get this solved.

Just wanted to update this thread - thanks so much to OUAnthony and Stefan for helping me sort through this...

It now works over wifi and 3G!! What I ended up doing (as per suggested) was to completely set my router back to default settings, after turning off port forwarding and auto config on the iCamSource program. I then began rebuilding my network one thing at a time, checking for conflicts as I went. I was able to put my wireless network back on the air, D-link's Shareport utility to network-share my printer, and my Airport Express (in client mode) to feed my home theater. All of these work with iCamSource, with a firewall running, and the network secure...

To say I'm happy with the tech support is an understatement. Stefan (and Anthony) went above and beyond to help this newbie get it working. Now I can check on my young dog in her run, from my phone, from ANYWHERE!

Thanks again guys. The product is great - the people behind the product are even better!!

Cheers

Glad you got it working Phil! I'm sure you already knew this, but I don't work for SKJM. I just try to help people out so Stefan and Jay can spend more time coding new updates. :) I freakin' love this program, combined with Dropbox for off-site backup of the motion events...makes a great security system. The other day, a house down the street from me was broken into. I talked to the cops, and they didn't have any security cameras. Bummer! While I know iCam won't keep anyone from breaking in, I sleep much better knowing that I will have pictures of anyone who does break in. Granted, that'll be the least of their worries if I'm home when they break in...hello shotgun. lol But I'll echo what you've said...these guys provide great customer service, as evidenced by the fact that they help you set your network up. Network engineers charge a pretty penny for their services. To puchase a $5 program and get that kind of help at no extra cost says a lot about their character. I bet if you needed similar help with a Microsoft network-related program, they'd charge you a pretty penny for that kind of help. Let's just hope Stefan and Jay don't ever get blinded by $$$$ signs. haha

What error message are you seeing when you are unable to connect: No Sources Found, Broker Connection Error, or Source Connection Error?

You may also find the "Troubleshooting" section of the iCam Help pages useful: http://skjm.com/icam/help/troubleshooting.php

If you are seeing the Source Connection Error, have you tried checking the Auto-Config Router checkbox in the iCamSource? If so, what status message appears after you have clicked the Start button? - http://skjm.com/icam/help/troubleshooting.php#icam3

If it only says "Connecting ..." in the title bar when you have the Auto-Config Router checkbox checked I would uncheck it as it is not compatible with your router for some reason.

Are your Mac and Windows computers connected to the same router on your network?

Are you able to connect to your Windows iCamSource using iCamWeb from your Mac or from the same Windows machine? - http://skjm.com/icam/web/

If you aren't even able to connect from the same computer running the iCamSource then there is most likely something on your computer blocking the incoming connection. What firewall and / or security software do you have installed on your computer?
Title: Re: Troubleshooting 102 - Source Connection Error

Just windows firewall and avg free which doesn't have a firewall

When you click the Start button you still see "Connected to Server" in the iCamSource Preferences window title, correct? And you see your webcam's preview video in the iCamSource Preferences window?

I would suggest temporarily disabling both your Windows Firewall and AVG Free to see if that has any effect on your connecting via iCamWeb from the same computer.

Just tick the bottom left corner on the preferences of icamsource. "Auto config router"
reboot both computer and phone. it should work perfectly after that.

If you uncheck the Auto-Config Router checkbox are you able to connect via 3G? If not, I would suggest unplugging and re-plugging in your router (effectively rebooting it) and trying to run the iCamSource again with the Auto-Config Router checkbox checked to see if you see a UPnP or NAT-PMP Success status message instead.

Do you see the Source Connection Error or No Sources Found when you attempt to connect after your MacBook has been awoken from sleep?

When your MacBook is awoken, is it connected to the same local network as before? Do you know if its internal IP address has changed?

Source Connection Error
One or more of the iCamSources returned by the iCam Broker Server could not be connected to.

This is after awoken to my MAC desktop, and the iCamSource perference show its still running.
And my MacBook keep on the same local network as before, and with a fix internal IP address as before sleep.

Hello,
I have no problem using icam with the wifi connection (at home), but when i use the 3G connection, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't ("Source connection error").
At home on the icamsource preferences panel , the url given is "192.68.0.27:8080 ..." , this is an "internal" address.
Outdoor, with my iphone, I access my camera directly  on safari with my ip address (81.56.21.xx:8080) , and it works perfectly.

On the router i see that :
UPNP is not activated
Proxy Wake on Line not activated
Answer to ping not activated

Hi,
After my MAC wake up for several min or an hours it still not able to connect using iCam. However, Motion detect can sent notification to me.
Stop and re-start button also not allow me to connect.  (This is not resonable, iCam is a remote security software. If I can sit in front of my MAC to stop and re-start, then why I need to buy iCam)
I found that most people have the similar experience here, its sound the iCamSource still have some connection issue behind. Hope SKJM team could have an update to fix those connect problem soon.

Hi,
I found that quit and restart the iCamSource could not solve the problem.  Only change the login password on both iCam and iCamSource then got the connection again.
Is there any limitation behind the iCamSource backend server?

When my Macs go to sleep and then come back I don't have any issue connecting. Perhaps there is something unique to your system / configuration.

If you could go to http://whatismyipaddress.com/ from the computer running the iCamSource and e-mail support@skjm.com what it says your external IP address is then we can attempt to look it up in the Broker Server logs and hopefully troubleshoot the problem. Please reference this forum post in your e-mail.

Thank you for the IP address.

I was able to find your IP address in the iCam Broker Server logs, but I did not see anything out of the ordinary.

If you start the iCamSource and are able to connect via local WiFi from your iPhone, if you then put your Mac to sleep, wait 30 seconds, and then wake it up, and wait another 30 seconds, are you able to connect? If not, what error message do you see? If you wait another minute, are you then able to connect? If not, do you see the same error message?

Do you perhaps have more than one router on your iCamSource network? What is/are the make and model of your router(s)? Also, what is the make and model of your cable or DSL modem?

Thanks for your help!

Sometime iCam could last for few hours without any problem after my MAC go asleep. The problem still happen even if I set my MAC never sleep.
Start and Stop the iCamSource could not fix the problem. Only stop and change both iCam and iCamSource passwoard could connect again.

My routher is Dray Tek  "Vigor 2930", with a fix ip always connected to WAN1 of this router. and force my ip  connect to WAN1. This router will direct connect to the ISP network. My MAC can connect to any web site after wake up from asleep.

The error message as following:
Source Connection Error
One of more of the iCamSources returned by the iCam Broker Server could not be connected to.

When you change the iCam Login and Password I am assuming that you change them to something different in both iCam and the iCamSource? So you are having to change the login / password combination to something else every time you are unable to connect?

It is odd that changing the iCam Login and Password would be the fix, based on how iCam and the iCamSource communicate with each other and the broker server.

If you reboot your computer (instead of changing the login and password) does that allow you to then reconnect?

Yes, Stop and Start button doesn't fix the problem. Close and re-launching with same user name and password also can't fix the problem.
Only Reboot the system or change the password could fix this problem.

That is a very strange issue indeed. Perhaps your iCamSource settings file has gotten into a bad state. If you delete your com.skjm.icamsource.plist file from your Library > Preferences folder in your home folder and then re-launch the iCamSource, does that help the issue?

Your iCamSource settings will have been reset, so you will have to re-enter them to get things running again.

Thank you for your post, and I am sorry that you are having problems.

If you already have port forwarding configured on your router, I would like to try and confirm that your port forwarding is functioning as we expect it to. If you visit this link in your computer's web browser: http://portchecker.net/udp.php?p=12001

... it will open a webpage that contains a Java Applet in it (similar to iCamWeb) that will be able to listen on port 12000 for a UDP packet to be sent from a server on the Internet to your computer.

If your port forwarding is functioning correctly then you should see a message saying that the port is "open." If it is not functioning correctly, it should say that it is blocked.

Also, please send a screenshot of your router's port forwarding configuration to support@skjm.com, so we can verify the settings.

It sounds like you're using a 3G wireless modem to connect your computer to the internet.  Those types of connections often block network traffic from server applications like the iCamSource.  There is a chance iCam will work if your USB device has an integrated router.  To see if this is the case you can try the Auto-Config Router checkbox to see if you are able to connect.

Yes, unfortunately it is most likely you will not be able to use iCam with your Web 'n Walk.

In this case, there isn't any router to configure, the computer gets a direct connection to the ISP through the wireless modem.  If the iCam network traffic is being blocked, it's being blocked by the ISP.

The only other thing to could try is to disable your firewall temporarily to see if iCam starts working.

The UPnP success message indicates that the port has been opened successfully in the router. The port might be blocked by another router on the network. Are there any other routers on the network? What are the Brand/Model of all routers on the network? What is the Brand/Model of your cable/DSL modem? Some modems have an integrated router that could cause this problem.

It's also possible that the router is in a bad state. You can check that by rebooting the router. To to that, unplug the router's power cable for about ten seconds, then plug the power cable back in. Once the router has rebooted, try running iCamSource again.

Also, it's possible that the iCam app settings on the Android phone have gotten into a bad state.

On your Android phone,  go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications and then choose iCam and the "Clear Data".  Then try connecting again.

Thanks for that additional information.

We are currently tracking a possible change in the AT&T 3G network that is making it difficult for the Firewall Piercing Techniques to function properly. Are you an AT&T subscriber? What is your geographic location (city, state)?

If your router supports UPNP or NAT-PMP, you may need to enable it in order for the auto-configuration logic to work.

I'm not sure what may have changed but if it is no longer working and you are receiving the "UPnP may not be enabled" status message you will need to enable it in order for the auto-configuration logic to work.

If your router doesn't support UPnP or NAT-PMP, the only thing left to try is to manually configure your router for port forwarding. There's more information about using port forwarding with iCamSource here: http://skjm.com/forum/index.php?topic=402.0

If you have any problems with the instructions on that page, please send me the Brand/Model of your router so I can find port forwarding instructions for your particular router.

Here is a link to the port forwarding instructions for your particular router: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Netgear/DG834GT/default.htm (http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Netgear/DG834GT/default.htm)

Following these instructions:

Forward the port range 12000-12100 (UDP protocol)  to the computer running the iCamSource.

Once this is done and you've enabled port forwarding in the iCamSource program, you should be able to access your iCamSource.

To enable port forwarding in the iCamSource program, follow the directions in this forum post: http://skjm.com/forum/index.php?topic=402 (http://skjm.com/forum/index.php?topic=402)

Have you tried rebooting your router since this issue occurred?

Also, you do not need to set a static IP address. You can follow the rest of the instructions on the portforward site to see if it works.

I am having this error and can't figure it out.

I can connect if I am on the same Wifi network as the computers, but if I go to a different wifi OR 3G, I get the error.

I have two computers at home and can see both of them through my ipad while at home, but can't see them from work.  Additionally, I can see my work computer on my iPad while at work on their Wifi, but can't see it from home.

I opened the specified ports on my Actiontec Fios router at home (12000-12500) but that doesn't seem to help...plus that doesn't explain why I can't see my work computer from 3G unless work also has some type of firewall restrictions that I cannot change.

Thank you for your post.

Your work's network may be restricted and not allowing the iCam traffic. Work Wi-Fi networks can be very restrictive. Often, they will only allow web browsing and email.

One thing you can try is to enable the "Auto-Config Router" option in iCamSource. That will attempt to use UPnP to open a port in the router so that your computer can communicate with remote networks. It's most likely that your work's network won't allow the Auto-Config Router option to work, but it's worth trying.

Also, please quit or disable all firewall software on the computer running iCamSource (temporarily) to see if iCam starts working. If it does, we can configure the firewall to work with iCam.

OK, all my OS X firewall software is off, and enabled the 'auto-config router' but still no go.  I'm not too concerned with the work issue so I'll leave that out of the mix.  If I could get it so I can see my home computers from work, I'd be happy.

i like everyone else is having trouble connecting to my icamsource via 3g or while not connected to same wifi network as source is running from.  connect fine via wifi, i have two cams and cannot access either one over 3g.  i have a dlink dir-655 router and have the virtual server up for port 12001. in the icamsource software both cameras work fine and i have the "auto config router" box checked with the message " upnp success 12001->12001 ".  everything is set up correctly as far as i know. one of my cams is an ip cam that is also working correctly in icamsource, and i can connect to it via 3g through safari browser, but not the app.  ive had this problem for prolly a year or better but just gave up before after numerous attempts to fix the same issue. now i want to use it again and wondered if there was a fix but it seems as if the answer is "NO".  my iphones 3g ip addy starts with 198 and i remember seeing something about how this may cause issues.  how come there has been no fix/workaround for this issue in over a year? i use to love this app and brag about it to everyone, even got some people to buy this app, been using it for a long time before it quit working via 3g.  please update or fix the issue that EVERYONE is having. i am sure there is a way to get this to work again.  i find it strange that AT&T would block this app somehow but allow a bizzillion other apps to work.

@elkskins_j - In your router's settings, click the Advanced menu item along the top, and then click the Firewall Settings link on the left. If the "Enable SPI" checkbox is checked, uncheck it. Also make sure that the UDP Endpoint Filtering is Address Restricted or Endpoint Independent.

If disabling SPI or adjusting the endpoint filtering does not fix things for you, please see below.

Manually forwarding ports your router (or setting up a Virtual Server entry) should involve more than one port (we recommend a range of 12000-12100) and should not be combined with the Auto-Config Router checkbox. Do you also have the Port Forward Range checkbox enabled in your iCamSource? If so, I would suggest unchecking it, removing the virtual server entry in your router, and just leaving the Auto-Config Router checkbox checked in the iCamSource.

Since there are so many different types of routers, firewalls, wireless networks, and network configurations in the world, iCam doesn't always "just work" for every user without some additional configuration. I can guarantee that iCam does "just work" for the vast majority of our users. "Everyone" isn't having this problem, but since this is the Support Forum where people with problems come to post, it is one of the the most common issues.

ok, spi was not checked, endpoint on udp is end independent, i used the port forwarding instead of virt server with 12000-12100 and did not use auto config checked in icam source, then i tried it every other possible combination of ways , including removing all entries in my router and just leaving auto config checked, still no matter what i do or try i cannot connect via 3g.  i remember trying all this before with no luck, i have even removed my router and hooked this pc running icam source up to cable modem and still no good.

What is the make and model of your cable modem?

When you forwarded a range of ports (12000-12100) in your router, did you try the port checker tool to see whether or not the port forwarding settings were working as expected?

If you visit this link ... http://portchecker.net/udp.php?p=12000 ... it will open a webpage that contains a Java Applet in it (similar to iCamWeb) that will be able to listen on port 12000 for a UDP packet to be sent from a server on the Internet to your computer. If your port forwarding is functioning correctly then you should see a message saying that the port is open. If it is not functioning correctly, it should say that it is blocked.

What is the specific model of your Arris modem? If there is a firewall setting in your modem that is enabled, please try disabling it to see if that has any effect.

It looks like you are running an older version (2.2.2) of the iCamSource. I would suggest updating to the latest version on our website: http://skjm.com/icam/support.php

It looks like you are running the iCamSource with two cameras (one USB webcam and one IP camera) is that correct?

If you could e-mail a screenshot of your router's port forwarding settings screen to support@skjm.com we can confirm the settings with what we are seeing in the iCam Broker Server logs.

Good morning,

I just bought your application for my Iphone 3G S and work great with WiFi but with the 3G mode I have some problems

I have a PC in my house with a router Zyxel P 660 wifi and 2 Axis camera ip wifi, everything work good when I do the first connection with my Iphone and 3G mode, I can see all the 3 cameras working perfect and I can zoom on them too...until I close or I refresh the application on the Iphone is ok, the problem is when I try to exit from the ICam or if I try to refresh the cameras on the Iphone, then I lose completely the connection to the server and the only solution at the problem is to go on the PC and to Stop and to Restart again on the main MENU (I have to press the button down on the right of the Menu panel), then everything restart perfect

I tried many times and I am sure that the port forwarding is ok because my UDP 12000 port is open checking on the link that you gave, I abled the Unpg and I tried even to switch off my Norton Firewall but doesn't change anything, look's like that there is a bug on the program on the iphone if you close the application or if you try to reload the cameras because exactly in that moment you are not able anymore to connect with the server from the Iphone

can you help me please?  :)

thank's a lot

the strange thing is that I am able to see all my camera with IcamWEB (it mean that my firewall and my port are open...I even checked with PortChecker and all is ok), I am able to see the cameras with WIFi (with my Iphone and Ipad) and I am able to see all the cameras with Iphone and Ipad using the 3G but if I try to refresh the cameras or to enter/exit from the Icam program on the Iphone/Ipad then the second time that I try to re-enter I am not able to connect at the server and I see the error message

than I am not able anymore to see the cameras (even if I close completely the Icam program on the Iphone) until I go on the main PC at home where is running IcamSource program and I push on the button STOP/START....than I able again to connect with the Iphone/Ipad but only for 1 session so if I want to check during the day more times my house I can't  ???

by IcamWEB  I am able to connect many times during the day and no problem  :)

strange  ::) looks like that there is a problem on the web server that doesn't reconize me or he think that I am already logged and he doesn't give me the permission anymore to re-enter...boh :)

new test:

I went in my parents house and I tried to connect by WiFi to my iCamSource with the Iphone/Ipad and the result is the same, work perfect at the first connection and if I try again or I try to refresh the cameras doesn't work again!

so this is not a problem of the 3G system on my Iphone, there is something strange on the web server :(

I am from Italy

If you already have port forwarding configured on your router, I would like to try and confirm that your port forwarding is functioning as we expect it to. If you visit this link in your computer's web browser: http://portchecker.net/udp.php?p=12001 (http://portchecker.net/udp.php?p=12001)

... it will open a webpage that contains a Java Applet in it (similar to iCamWeb) that will be able to listen on port 12001 for a UDP packet to be sent from a server on the Internet to your computer.

If your port forwarding is functioning correctly then you should see a message saying that the port is "open." If it is not functioning correctly, it should say that it is blocked.

Please send me a screenshot of your router's port forwarding configuration to support@skjm.com so we can verify the settings. Also, please reference this forum post and your user name in your email.

Hello - I also get the Source connection error - even if my iPhone is connected via WiFi. iCamSource is connected to server according to the preferences window and the video stream is visible within iCamSource preferences.

The iPhone and my Mac are in the same wireless network, I deactivated the MacOS Firewall, I only have one single router and I entered the passwords / user in iCamSource and in my iPhone various times to make it absolutely sure that they are identical.  Several reboots of iPhone and Mac had also no impact at all.

I used iCam a year ago for several weeks and then I had no problems - now I updated on the most recent version of iCam and iCamSource and I am lost.  ???

Any ideas?

Kersten

I just installed the iCam app on my iPhone 4.  Works just fine when connected to my home wi-fi, but I get the "source connection error" when trying to connect via 3G.  I get the same error when I use the "auto config router" option on both wi-fi and 3G.  I tried manually setting up port-forwarding, as well as using the tool on the Port Forward website (apparently doesn't work for Mac), but neither worked (granted I wasn't able to successfully set up port-forwarding).

-Mac OS X
-iPhone 4 on latest firmware
-Router is Sagecom (Siemens) SE567

This is exceedingly frustrating and really shouldn't be this difficult to set up.

Thanks in advance.

Mine is giving me the Source Connection error when I access it wi-fi, works with 3G. The thing that's frustrating, is that it's been working just fine, no complaints. I've had no issues connecting until today. I've not changed any settings, I added a camera in the past couple of weeks, a network camera, but I've had no issues with it being on there, and again, it's been working fine. Except today. Restarted, checked everything, seems normal. I have an iMac, my setting is set to forward to the 12000-12100 ports, etc. Not sure why it would all of the sudden stop connecting.

Hi i am getting an Source Connection Error on both wifi and 3g, yet i get motion notifications on 3g and wifi. I am getting an
"UPnP Dual NAT ext_ip: 10.0.1.5" when i check auto-config router box, i have an actiontec router in bridge mode and an airport extreme that is the dhcp router.

I also have a slingbox and a wireless hp laserjet that I can hit via 3G on the same network.
Title: Re: Troubleshooting 102 - Source Connection Error
Post by: SKJM Support on January 30, 2012, 11:45:00 AM
The Dual NAT error message indicates that there are two routers on your local network. Since you have two routers and one is currently in Bridge Mode, it's possible that they are connected to a modem that has an integrated router. iCamSource is able to auto-configure the router that it's connected to, but the other router is still blocking the traffic. The solution is to put one of the modem into Bridge Mode (turn off the routing functionality).

What is the Brand/Model of your DSL/cable modem?

It's an actiontec mi424wr on verizon fios, and it's in bridge mode. The apple airport is acting as the dhcp server.

The actiontec router may still be responding to the UPnP command, even though it's in Bridge Mode. Please try disabling UPnP on the actiontec router.

If that does not work, you may need  to manually configure port forwarding on the Airport.

Here is a link to the port forwarding instructions for your particular router: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Apple/AirPortExtreme/default.htm
 (http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Apple/AirPortExtreme/default.htm)

Please let me know if you have any questions about any of these instructions.

Have you tried checking the Auto-Config Router checkbox in the iCamSource before clicking the Start button? If that doesn't work, please let me know what status message appears next to the Auto-Config Router checkbox when you run iCamSource with that option enabled.

Our new iCam Help Troubleshooting section also contains some additional information about what to try when you are unable to connect from outside of your local WiFi network: http://skjm.com/icam/help/troubleshooting.php#icam3 (http://skjm.com/icam/help/troubleshooting.php#icam3)

Please send a screenshot of the iCamSource preference screen to support@skjm.com and reference this post and your username.

Also, users can set the login and password in iCamSource to be anything they want. If your login/pass is something simple it is likely another user is using the same login/password combination. Please change it to something other people won't be able to guess easily.

Hi
I am running iCamSource 2.4.4 Beta on my iMac w/Lion 10.7.2 and connecting via my iPhone4S running iCam 2.1.1 with Foscam IP camera
I can view the camera from my iPhone while on the same network and when on 3G connection away from local network, until my iMac goes into power save/sleep mode. In prior versions of iCamSource w/Snow Leopard this was not an issue. I thought that iCamSource's constant reading of the video stream from my IP camera, it would keep the iMac from going into sleep mode (the way it use to). Are you encountering this with other Lion installations?

Thanks,
Derrick

None of our prior version of iCamSource prevent your computer from going into sleep mode. Make sure that your computer isn't configured to go into Sleep mode after a period of inactivity by going to Settings> Energy Saver. Then set the "Computer Sleep" to Never. If your computer is asleep, the iCamSource will not be actively running, and you will not be able to connect.

I imagine these forums have some good info in them if you have 3 days to read them all. I think it much better to have a more precise setup guide with a step by step menu of what to do if.....................Ive read as many posts as i can, I have 2 cameras, UPNP is enabled, AutoConfig Router is checked, at home on IPhone i get both cameras to show at work desktop its a fight to get even one to show, never had both. Ive uninstalled-reinstalled and now got to the point of researching other software unless someone can give me a concise how to fix it scenario.

I have tried it with that option unchecked and was told to check it, then i was told to download that file so Port Forwarding showed up on ICam source machine and that doesnt work. Why isnt there a logical manual to walk people thru the setup??? I thought this was a simple plug and play app from Itunes store, its far from that as evidenced by the volumes of forum posts with similar problems. Who is going to make this work, I have a life other than fighting with a $6.00 simple to install APP. Someone give me a solid answer soon.

Ive now enabled UPNP as i was told, then i got the port forwarding installed and it says 12000...12100, and i am now lucky enough to not be able to see any camera at any time. I wish Support people would be available at times when I am home by source computer and would dedicate time until it was solved. Right now its being done one email at a time, then i wait till next day, go to work, find out what the new error is and then email support again, its like 2 day turn around for one question. NAT is enabled . I installed icamsource 1.4.2.6 BETA
Title: Re: Troubleshooting 102 - Source Connection Error
Post by: SKJM Support on April 23, 2012, 09:11:40 PM
Is the computer, running iCamSource, now on a different network?

The Dual NAT error message indicates that there are two routers on your local network. It's possible that you have a router that is connected to a modem that has an integrated router. iCamSource is able to auto-configure the router that it's connected to, but the other router is still blocking the traffic. The solution is to put one of the devices into Bridge Mode (turn off the routing functionality).

If you have a second router, what is the Brand/Model of that router? What is the Brand/Model of your DSL/cable modem?

I have downloaded icam source and icam on my iPad.
I have checked that UPnP is enabled, I have deleted added enabled everything that has been provided yet it still says the following:-
Source Connection Error
one or more of the Icamsources returned by the iCam Broker Server could not be connected to.

At iCam source I am connected to server and I have UPnP success 12000>12000

Right now it feels like I have spent £2.99 and 2 hours of my life on something that simply does not work!

Please could you provide some assistance asap or please arrange for a refund for the app
Title: Re: Troubleshooting 102 - Source Connection Error
Post by: SKJM Support on June 05, 2012, 04:13:00 PM
The UPnP success message indicates that the port has been opened successfully in the router. The port might be blocked by another router on the network. Are there any other routers on the network? What are the Brand/Model of all routers on the network? What is the Brand/Model of your cable/DSL modem? Some modems have an integrated router that could cause this problem.

It's also possible that the router is in a bad state. You can check that by rebooting the router. To do that, unplug the router's power cable for about ten seconds, then plug the power cable back in. Once the router has rebooted, try running iCamSource again.

Hey guys, I Luv the App! It's great for keeping an eye on my cat while I'm out of town and also providing a little peace of mind that my house isn't being broken into ;D

Now about the "Source Connection Error" message. I'm not sure if this has been mentioned or not yet but...

If you are like I was and cannot connect through wifi or 3g. Try UNCHECKING the "Auto-Config Router" checkbox and then restart iCam.

Once I did this it started right up and works with both 3g and wifi now. I'm sure like most things this won't fix it for everybody but hopefully it will help a few people out there.

Cheers, Happy cat watching! :D

Do you ever see that error message when your phone is connected to the same local Wi-Fi network as the computer running iCamSource?

If you already have port forwarding configured on your router, I would like to try and confirm that your port forwarding is functioning as we expect it to. If you visit this link in your computer's web browser: http://portchecker.net/udp.php?p=12001

... it will open a webpage that contains a Java Applet in it (similar to iCamWeb) that will be able to listen on port 12001 for a UDP packet to be sent from a server on the Internet to your computer.

If your port forwarding is functioning correctly then you should see a message saying that the port is "open." If it is not functioning correctly, it should say that it is blocked.

Also, please send a screenshot of your router's port forwarding configuration to support@skjm.com. Please reference this post and your username.

Thank you for the quick response. Background on my issue: I am running iCamsource on a Dell XP Laptop. I am running the iCam App on a gen 1 iPad. I have a Cisco / Linksys L1000 wireless router for my network at home.  When I use the same WiFi network it works fine. The problem is when I have iCamsource running on my home WiFi and the App on my iPad running 3G.  I have done the port forwarding as suggested with all permutations of checking and un-checking Auto Config Router / Port Forwading. When I get home this evening I will do what you've suggested and e-mail my Config screen shot. The IP address I put into the router Config for Port Forwarding is my laptop's address, not the public IP address of the router. I know this shouldn't matter, but I just want to be as specific as possible. Thank you again.

It's possible that the registry key has somehow gotten into a bad state.

Please download and run (double-click) this file: http://skjm.com/icam/CleaniCamKey.reg (http://skjm.com/icam/CleaniCamKey.reg)

That will erase the current iCamSource settings in your registry. You will need to re-enter all of your settings, but hopefully the problem will be resolved if it's due to a problem in the registry.

Hi,
I have iCamSource 2.5 running on a machine where a Logitech and a Microsoft LifeCam are connected. When I connect using iCam from the local wireless network, I can view both cameras. When I connect externally, sometimes I can view both cameras but usually I can view only one of them. The error message I get is Source Connection Error: One or more of the iCamSources returned by the iCam broker server could not be connected to. I have configured port forwarding on my ADSL Router for ports 12000 to 12100 to the same machine.
Thanks

Can't seem to connect outside of my network (testing using iPhone 3G connections). It works perfectly when using wifi.

Here are the details:
Desktop - iCamSource installed on iMac OS 10.7.4
Router - Linksys E4200
Test machine - iPhone 4S with iCam app

Tried all these:
Auto-Config Router - Auto-Config Router is checked: UPnP Success 12000 -> 12000 (still wasn't able to access via 3G)
Had someone check from another location
Turned off router firewalls
Unchecked Auto-Config Router
Enabled Port Forwarding on Router and in iCamSource
Turned off iAntiVirus
Turned on iMac firewall, set iCamSource to be an allowed connection

None of these fixed the problem...  ??? Port Checker still says that port is blocked.

I am having close to the same issue as I see in many of these posts but with a twist.

Up to recently I have I have been able to access Icam from 3g anywhere in the US but not really used it at home attached to my WIFI.  But for some reason, out of the clear blue, with no changes to any equipment I can only get Icam when attached to my home WIFI or anyother WIFI network where I travel and can not seem to connect on 3g.

I can on anyone elses WIFI anywhere and connect, but leave WIFI and go 3g and can not connect.  Any suggestions.

A number of changes to any one of the networks involved, including your local network, phone network or your ISP network, could have this kind of effect.

Have you tried checking the Auto-Config Router checkbox in the iCamSource before clicking the Start button? If that doesn't work, please let me know what status message appears next to the Auto-Config Router checkbox when you run iCamSource with that option enabled.

Hello.. I've been using iCam since you guys first came out - what a great product!! I originally had everything working on a WRT54G linksys router, I was able to connect via both wifi and 3g/4g. I've recently upgraded to a newer linksys router, the EA2700, and now I can't connect to the iCamSource via 3g/4g cellular, I can only connect when on a wifi signal. So I've read all the posts in this thread and I've tried just about everything and it still won't work.

I've logged into the linksys web interface and made sure the UPnP is enabled and NAT is also enabled. So I added ports 12000 - 12100 to the Port Range Forwarding section and also have that enabled, but when I check port checker for any ports (like 12001) it's coming up blocked. I've tried to uncheck "filter anonymous internet requests" and "filter multicast" and all of the other "filter" checkboxes, but nothing seems to work. I spent hours on this yesterday trying to get the portchecker to say "open" on port "12001" and it still comes up blocked.

I don't know what else to try. It's almost like the linksys router is still blocking the ports even though I've added them and enabled the port range forwarding. I've also noticed that when I try to use multiple cameras on wifi, it doesn't work. Only 1 camera source will show up and the others look frozen - not sure if this helps troubleshoot but I figured I would mention it.

You'll probably tell me to email a screenshot to the support email (like you did others), so I've already done that and have referenced this thread with my username so you can help via email. Thanks!!

I got it working.. The culprit was the Vonage device. It goes inline between the modem and the router and it was double NAT'ing and causing a conflict. If you plug in the Vonage device into the router instead and plug the modem directly to the router, then it doesn't block the 12000-12100 ports and works perfectly.

So anyone with Vonage - plug the Vonage device into the router as another device - instead of the modem into the Vonage and then the Vonage into the internet port on the router. The Vonage device will still work despite what Vonage support tells you, you'll still get a dial tone and the voice quality is exactly the same.

I feel as if there are a lot of elements that are not making it work. I have tried port forwarding, auto-config and everything.
I need help. I can connect when using WIFI to see the camera on my iPhone5 (AT&T-166) however, when I connect to my 4G Microcell tower, it does not work.

When I go to my Portchecker, it says that the 12100 is blocked.

Please send a screenshot of your router's port forwarding configuration to support@skjm.com (http://support@skjm.com), so we can verify the settings.

Also, if you could go to http://whatismyipaddress.com/ (http://whatismyipaddress.com/) from the computer running the iCamSource and send your external IP address to support@skjm.com (http://support@skjm.com) so we can attempt to look it up in the Broker Server logs and hopefully troubleshoot the problem. Please reference this forum post and your user name in your email.

Once again, SKJM Support (via email) stayed the course (with me) and isolated my Source Connection Error.  For internal security, and because I live in a rural (kuntry) area; my ISP changes my IP rather frequently it seems.

History:  I could run iCamSource and everything would appear perfectly in iCam (for iPhone).  Later (minding my own business), I would receive a PUSH that motion was detected on one of my cameras.  I'd open iCam to checkout the motion; only to receive the illustrious "Source Connection Error." We knew my port-forwarding and security software had to be configured correctly; else I would not be able to connect in the first place.  To "fix" the error, all I had to do was STOP iCamSource and START it again.

Through push, pull, tugs and prods and glue to put my hair back in; SKJM Support had me check WhatismyIP when iCam and iCamSource were working properly.  They had me check it again when I received the Source Connection Error, and sure enough, my ISP had changed my IP address.  Some days, my IP address doesn't change at all; on others it may change 3 times within half an hour.

I always try to give credit where credit is due; and SKJM Support deserves it.  My "errors" with iCam and iCamSource were not caused by their software; rather it is my ISP that I have to resolve issues with.

At this point, I can pay my ISP more for a fixed (static IP address); or I can continue to STOP and START iCamSource (now that I understand the problem).  At the least, I know where my problem originates!

Thanks SKJM Support, for being patient enough to hang in there with me on my Source Connection Error issue.  You have been, and still are the BEST in Support!

Thanks for the great feedback, dkb52. :)

There is actually a setting that you can enable in the iCamSource that should help you with your frequently-IP-changing situation. We try not to post it publicly since it isn't necessary for most users and because it also puts an additional strain on our server.

I believe Lorena sent you the instructions for how to enable the setting, so check your e-mail if you haven't seen it already.

Thanks again for the post.  :D

I have the same IP changing situation. Pretty much everyday it changes one camera's IP or both, usually by one digit. I stop the camera, change the IP, and then it works for a day or two and then another change happens. How can I fix this problem?

Please send a message how I can fix this please!

Thanks,
Nelson

This isn't the external IP changing, but the IP camera's IP is changing. Please check your camera's settings and configure it to use a static IP address instead of relying on DHCP.

I have been using the iCam app on my MyTouch as well as my Galaxy tab foe a while now with no troubles. In fact it was the easiest set up ever for a camera. My problem is I now use the HTC One x from T-Maybe oops I mean T-Mobile and now I get a no source error on my phone but not the tablet. I have checked and double checked the user name / password and still no source is found. What do I do? I had to re pay for the app for my new phone but it does not work

It's possible that the iCam app settings on the Android phone have gotten into a bad state.

On your Android phone,  go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications and then choose iCam and the "Clear Data".  Then try connecting again.

I've been using the iCam app for years and all of a sudden it's not working. We use 3 different cameras and for some reason 1 of them no longer shows up in the app when we are out of our WiFi network. Please help!!!

I have an iPhone 4S with AT&T Wifi at home and the 4G network when not connected to wifi

Are all three cameras running on the same computer? If so, do they all 3 cameras appear in the iCamSource?

No I have 2 computers and a camera. The camera is connected to one of the computers and those 2 work it's the other computer that isn't working if I'm not in the same wifi network.

If you are running iCamSource(s) on more than one computer on the same network then you will need to use (and forward) a separate port range for each computer. (We recommend using 12000-12100, 12200-12300, 12400-12500, etc.) - http://skjm.com/forum/index.php?topic=402.0 (http://skjm.com/forum/index.php?topic=402.0)

I'm not very tech savvy... So I was hoping that someone could help me setup iCam and iCamSource.

I ran through all the troubleshooting but still can't get them to work together on my Mac running 10.5.8 and my Android Samsung Galaxy S4.

Most of the troubleshooting was for an iPhone.  Which I have an iPhone 4S, 5 and soon 5S.  But, right now they are all being repaired or borrowed for the time being.

And since I'm using this service for basic pet, baby and family watching.  I'd like anyone in my family to be able to watch the house at any given time on our Android or iPhones.

So with that being said... my issue is... it still doesn't work!

I get a "Connecting..." message in the iCamSource window and from the troubleshooting that means that iCam and iCamSource just can't connect to one another... I've allowed forwarding and changed firewall settings but maybe I didn't do it right?

Now I would just do the proxy server setting to make it easier but I'd rather not pay $1 for every 25mb... since I have no idea how much I'd be watching live video.  And if I did it often I'd rather just go with a paid service.

So... I took a picture of the issue and it says "Source Connection Error" One or more of the iCamSources Returned by the iCam Broker Server could not be connected to.

Have you enabled the network settings as manual?? If it is so then just try to change into an automatic mode, I think this might be the problem, since I do have an IP camera that to with motion sensor security lighting but I haven't found any kind of problem yet, I hope it works !! :)

I am running IcamSource on several installations successfuly connecting both from IOS and Android clients. However on my cabin where my Dlink router DIR 566 1.37EU,  2013/06/06, uses 3g USB modem, the IP address changes frequently, and I then get the 102 source connection error. I get UPNP Successes every time I restart and then it works for a while, probably until next change of IP. Does the client at all monitor the actual Ip address? And does it then ever notify the server?

Title: IP6 can be is a cause for this error!
Post by: waylo on January 31, 2015, 08:51:19 PM
FYI to others:

I've been using icam on my Android for several years and never had any problems.  I run icamsource on 3 separate computers and could always check all feeds easily.

After a recent ROM upgrade on my Samsung S4, I could no longer access the video feed while on 3g/4g.  When connected to wifi, I could!

I thought it was going to be a long arduous troubleshooting deal.  Which it almost was.  But while looking at some other functions on my phone, I found that my VPN program also balked.

A specific google search revealed that my carrier, T-Mobile, has been moving its wireless data settings over to IP6, which causes this specific problem!

http://www.pocketables.com/2014/01/android-tip-dont-use-ipv6-need-vpn-capability-t-mobile.html

I duplicated the default APN settings to a user configurable one and just altered the APN protocol to IP4 from IP6.  All fixed!

Hi

I've been trying to troubleshoot the connection error for about a month now.  I've tried all the suggestions that is in the original troubleshooting guide.  I've tried just e-mailing for support but get extremely slow response that is not helpful.  Has anyone else noticed that every time you find a thread that matches your problem, the final solution is never posted?  It always says "so-and-so" is getting help thru e-mail which does absolutely nothing for anyone looking to find the answer....

I have 5 foscam IP cameras that I purchased specifically because they will work with this program.  I have gotten all 5 cameras working  through computer and can monitor just fine as long as I'm sitting in front of the computer (which is totally not the point of using this program).  I can still monitor whether the Auto-Config Router is checked or unchecked. I have the Port Range 12000 to 12100 box present and checked..  The Auto-Config Router displays dual NAT and I have searched my entire system but can find only one router.... the MiFi that gives me wireless access to internet.

All attempts to connect to iCamSource from iCam on android phone are fruitless stating the iCamSource could not be connected to.  Is there anyone who knows the answer or has any suggestions?  I promise that, if I get the answer, I will make sure it is posted in this forum for all future seekers to find.  Thanks in advance!

You mentioned that you have port range enabled in iCamSource, but have you configured your router to forward that range of ports to the computer?

If you have already forwarded the ports in the router, then the mobile service provider may be blocking all incoming traffic. There are some mobile service providers that allow incoming connections, but most do not.  If that’s the case, the only way iCam will work is if proxying is enabled on the phone.

More information about Proxy Support is available on our Support Pages here: http://skjm.com/icam/help/proxy.php

I use TeamViewer to connect to my home computer from work on a regular basis, so I don't think the provider is blocking me.  I have sent screen shots to the person who is helping me thru e-mail.  Thank you for responding!

Hi, I've never had any issues with this program for over 4 years I've been using it.  But now I've switched to Net10 wireless which uses AT&T LTE.  On the LTE network I can not access my iCam sources, I'm getting Source Connection Error "One or more of the iCamSources returned by the iCam Broker Server could not be connected to."  But if I'm on any wifi, I can connect.  I'm using the latest Android iCam app and iCamsource 2.8.8 if that helps.

Any help appreciated, thanks.
