Title: New Release - iOS iCam 2.1 + iCamSource 2.4
Post by: Stefan on October 27, 2011, 09:43:44 AM
What's new:

- Pan-Tilt support for select (http://skjm.com/forum/index.php?topic=3162.0) cameras.
- Global Motion Detection Settings allow users to turn the Sending of Push Notifications and Recording of Motion Events ON or OFF for all cameras with the tap of a single button.
- Thumbnail view sort order support.
- Users can now optionally contribute to the monthly bandwidth and server costs that we incur to keep the iCam Service up and running.
- Various bug fixes and improvements.

When you update iCam, please make sure that you also update to the latest version (2.4) of the iCamSource application on your Mac or PC. The latest version of the iCamSource can always be found at http://skjm.com/icam/support.php

As always, any and all feedback is appreciated.

Thanks! :)

UPDATE - iCam 2.1.1 has been released to the App Store and should fix the issues with older iPhones / iPod touches running iOS 4.2.1 and earlier.
UPDATE #2 - iCamSource 2.4.1 for Windows has been released that fixes a crashing problem effecting a small number of users.
UPDATE #3 - iCamSource 2.4.2 for Windows has been released that fixes a Logitech PTZ problem effecting users with multiple USB webcams.
UPDATE #4 - iCamSource 2.4.1 for Mac has been released that contains memory usage and stability improvements.
UPDATE #5 - iCamSource 2.4.3 for Windows has been released that fixes a bug in the Logitech PTZ logic that could cause stability issues for some users.

I installed both new releases, iOS icam 2.1 and iCamSource 2.4.

When I tap on the zoomed-in camera view on the iPhone I see the following:

"Purchase Push on Motion in the Options screen to Send Push Notifications".

What is this?

What device and what version of iOS are you running?

We are seeing this on non-iOS 5 devices (iPhone 3G and the original iPhone) ... It did not show up in testing, so I am not sure why it is showing up now in release.

Finally! Thank you.

I am not sure how this works. As soon as I open my 4 cameras and tap on one of them to enlarge and then tap once again to turn on Motion Recording, it already shows "ON" without tapping it to set Motion Recording. Then all 4 cameras are on. It seems to be automatic without actually pressing the button. Could be a problem of endless recording and I am not aware of it.

I tried to test this further by walking by a camera and discovered that I could no longer sign on - Source connection Error. I looked up at my iMac menu bar and discovered the iCam icon had disappeared. I reopened iCam Source and I always get Source Connection Error and cannot sign on.

So close...

Regards

UPDATE:

I tried again to sign on and I was allowed - I did not do anything special - just waited to type my post. Now When I want to set up Motion Recording, only the single camera that I press the Recording button will be recording. How do I turn on all cameras at once?

(Yes - I have downloaded iCam Source 2.4 and the current app)

That is code left over from a much older version of iCam. Users do not need to purchase Push on Motion as it has been included for free for a while now.

Have you updated to the latest version of the iCamSource? (Version 2.4)

Yes - both iCam Source and the app are current today.

All of a sudden I can sign on (?!?) and can turn on all cameras at once by pressing the little global icon on the upper right corner and then Record Events "ON". Great - but how do I turn ALL of them OFF again? The only choice on the global list is "ON". I have to turn off the cameras one by one.

UPDATE: So sorry. Little iPod Touch4 and the "OFF" choice was hidden in landscape mode. Just a little shove up and there it was.
(groan)

UPDATE2: I went to try this again and discovered that the iCam icon again disappeared from my iMac menu bar and got the Source Connection Error. I opened iCam Source again and all was well with my iPod Touch4 but NOT with the iPod Touch2. Turning "OFF" globally leaves the button showing "ON" but does not record. My iPad2 works fine. (BTW, I am on Lion 10.7.2)

Just to be sure, are you running the latest version of the iCamSource on your Mac? (Version 2.4?)

I believe that there are some issues with older versions of iOS on older devices ... What version of iOS are you running on your iPods and iPad?

But not on my iPhone 3GS/iOS 5.0.

But not on my iPhone 3GS/iOS 5.0.

We don't see the issue on an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.3.5 so it is likely an issue with the 4.2.x and earlier devices.

Updated to icam source 2.4 and new iPhone and iPad apps.  I have a Mac with most recent leopard.  Don't want lion.  Previous icam source never once had issues. Previous apps never once had issues. Now when I try to use apps freeze when I change setting on iPad/iPhone.  Icam source keeps running on Mac fine, but the apps will no longer connect.  If I close source and relaunch apps works again, as soon as I change settings, be it notifications or record motion.  App freezes. Connections lost and no longer discovers running icam source.  Very frustrated,  I'd rather go back to what works.  Previous app and icam source.  Help.

What model of iPhone (iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4, etc.) do you have, and what version of iOS is it running?

We are tracking down an issue with the changing of motion detection settings from older i-Devices (iPhone 3G, original iPhone) running iOS 4.2.1 or earlier. We are working on a fix and will submit it to Apple as soon as possible.

I am on 2.4   My iPod Touch2, which has the problems, is on IOS 4.2.1 - cannot be upgraded. My iPod Touch4 and iPad2 are on IOS 5 and work fine.

We are currently tracking down an issue on iOS 4.2.1 and earlier devices ... Once the issue has been resolved we will be submitting an expedited fix to Apple.

I have new iPad 2 with 5.0, and my iPhone is a 4 with iOS 5.

I was running icam source on Mac previously for over a year no problems.  And I've had iPhone 4 and iPad 2 since launch with icam apps previous version. And never once had any type of freeze issues.  I would travel change notifications off on, change record off on. Turn icam app off on, without ever crashing. Without ever having to reset.  I'd had it go almost a week while away and my Mac and iPhone app always ran smooth.  I could trust it.  Now I'm scared to travel knowing this thing is going to fail me as soon as I leave the house.  Can I downgrade to previous versions.

This is insane!  Working great, no crashes, sound works and my SkyIPCam 777w from Airlink rotates!  Only issue I had was in the initial setup.  I was ready to write a not so good response because the iCamSource kept crashing over and over again.  Uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted, etc, etc but when I deleted all the cameras and set them all back up it started working perfectly.  Hope this helps someone else.

Thanks for the feedback! :)

One question though: Are you running the Mac or Windows version of the iCamSource? (I am guessing Windows, but I just want to be sure.)

My setup:
1) iMacG5 (2005) with OS 10.5.8, 1.9 Ghz PowerPC, 2.5GB RAM  - connected to Logitech C615 camera and built in iSight camera.
2) MBP 13" (2009) with OS 10.6.8, 2.26 Ghz Intel core 2 Duo, 8GB RAM - - connected to Logitech C615 camera and also using iSight camera.
3) (Windows) Dell Latitude D600 laptop (2004?) WinXP Pro 5.1 SP3, 1.3Ghz Intel Pentium M, 1.5GB RAM - - connected to Logitech C310 camera. Using Wi-fi to connect to my home wi-fi internet connection.
All with latest iCamsource software.

Ipad 1 with IOS 5
iPhone 4 with IOS 5
All with iCam 2.4 software.

I use no audio source on any cameras.
ATT Uverse internet service
-------------------------------------

I have some issues with my iMac and Logitech camera not connecting to the server.
All other computers/camera setups working OK.

Before I upgraded to the new iCamSource 2.4, software, I was having some issues with the iCamSource turning off on me during the day.  I thought it might be a USB power issue with the camera. So I turned off all running programs, bluetooth, Airport, etc. and that seemed to work. But not 100%, maybe 90% of the time.

Now though, the camera signal is not connecting to server, and I know iCamSource is running on computer, as I can see, via Logmein, that it is running and working and can even see the images. It just seems to not be connecting to the server.
I just keep getting the "Server Connection Error. One or more of the iCamSources returned by the iCam Broker Server could not be connected to."
When I switch iMac camera source to the built in iSight camera, signal comes through OK. But it does seem to take a long time for picture to render on iPad. Sometimes its blank, then when I refresh, it comes up. Sometime it doesn't connect.
When I switch back to the Logitech camera, it never connects to server, though I am seeing iCamSource running on the computer (via Logmein).
Motion detection is set to less often (for lower CPU usage).

When I try to run both the iSight cam and the Logitech Cam on the iMac, it will crash one of the iCamSources after a few minutes, seems to always be the Logitech Cam.So I don't do that anymore.
CPU usage is only about 14% according to Activity Monitor with either camera.(with sound off)

I will try some different camera/computer setups to utilize the newer computers better USB power and overall newer CPU/software.

Now I am not getting any picture on iCam from my iMac ICamSource though I see it running on the iMac computer.

(keep up the great work guys, this is one of the best Apps ever.  I did donate to your server fund as I would love to keep using this App and will encourage all to do the same!)

Stefan,

You guessed right I am using Windows.  As for adding presets that would be nice, but the on off for night vision would be awesome as well.  Curious that you never list the 777 as a compatible camera, is there a reason?

Well, we have never tried it on a 777. I would assume that it would work, but we just haven't tested it yet.

Thank you for this new release!
The Pan/Tilt function is working well with my Foscam FI8918W after I changed the settings from /snapshot.cgi in to /video.cgi, should I also change the JPEG setting in MJPEG ?

In the iCamSource 2.4 preferences next to pwd settings is a select box with numbers from 1 to 16 ... is this a frame rate setting?

Thanks for help

Yes, if you are using /video.cgi you should have better results if you change the setting from JPEG to MJPEG.

As for the drop-down, that is the Thumbnail Sort Order Index. (I believe if you mouse over it there should be a tool tip that pops up.)

From http://skjm.com/icam/help/#icamsource...

The numerical drop-down list located to the right of the iCam Password edit box is the Thumbnail Sort Order Index. If you are connecting to more than one camera and would like the thumbnail order to be the same every time you connect you can specify the sort order by selecting a different index for each camera.

Hello there! I bought iCam for iOS last week and I really like it!
Today however I noticed an odd behavior:

When I am in the overview screen I can see both of my cams running smoothly over 5fps (on wifi that is) but when I watch one in full screen even on the worst quality setting I will only get about 0,5fps.
Now at first I thought "Hey! Of course that's because the full screen version has a higher resolution which will take up more bandwidth!" but I checked the outgoing traffic anyway:

overview screen: 250-350 kB/s
fullscreen: 10-20kb/s

overview on 3G: 4kb/s
fullscreen: up to 19kb/s

I have several questions now:
1. Why doesn't the full screen view on wifi use the same bandwidth as the overview screen?
2. Why does the fullscreen view on 3G only use 19kb/s although I have approx. 60kb/s (DSL 16.000) upload bandwidth at my disposal?
3. Does the video stream go through your servers? or is it directly sent to my iOS device?

What is the Brand/Model of each camera?

On local Wi-Fi, you should see a few frames per second.
On a remote Wi-Fi hot spot, you should see about a frame per second.
On 3G, Apple requires us to keep the framerate less than 1 frame every 2 seconds (0.5 fps).  This has been the limit since iCam was first released.
On EDGE, you'll probably see about one frame every 5 seconds or so, or as low as 1 frame every 10 seconds if you have a poor EDGE signal.

Apple requires us to throttle the bandwidth usage over 3G.

The video stream does not go through our broker servers. It simply makes the initial connection between your computer running iCamSource and your phone.
