Title: Accessing webcam from another pc
Post by: cleozepp on December 24, 2008, 10:02:43 AM
I love this app, but with having an iTouch, I only can see the webcam when I am in an Wifi area.  Unfortunately, when I am at work I don't have wifi, but would like to view the cam setup at home.  Is there anyway to do that from my work pc?

Currently, the only way to access your cam is through the iPhone/iPod Touch.  Several users have asked for this functionality, so there's a good chance we'll develop it in the future.

Thanks.  Just thought I would ask.  Have a merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas to you, too.

Ask and ye shall receive. :)

In addition to working on sound (which is rapidly nearing completion) we have also been working on this: iCamWeb - http://skjm.com/icam/web/

Now you can access your cameras from any Java-enabled web browser. (If you need it, you can download Java here: http://java.com/download/)

You may note that it is currently in Alpha. The main reason for this is that it doesn't yet work in Internet Explorer. It works just fine in Firefox, Safari, or Opera. (Internet Explorer simply doesn't like to support things that make our lives easier. :))

IE support should be added within the next week or so.

Please note that if you don't "Run" or "Trust" the Signed Java Applet, you won't be able to connect to your iCamSource(s) using iCamWeb. If you don't Run or Trust the Applet the first time, you'll have to completely close your browser and restart it before you'll be asked again.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to reply to this post.

Don't forget Safari ;-)

The Alpha has been tested and confirmed to work in Safari, Firefox and Opera on Mac, as well as and Firefox, Safari, and Google Chrome on Windows.

The only browser that we know of that it does not currently work on is Internet Explorer on Windows, but that will be worked out soon enough. :)

This is working great! I was randomly searching through the forum for the first time and came across this post, impressive!

Today at work the iCam really shined when I did a spot check on my room to show a co-worker the program. Turns out my roommates dog is chewing a bone on my bed! Thank you iCam. I hope I don't kill your bandwidth on the Alpha but I'll have the window open non-stop now. Good work y'all!

Thanks

Just a quick update to note that iCamWeb now supports Internet Explorer and is currently in Beta. :)

It works for me in the Mac OS X version ... Do you have the latest Java installed on your computer? - http://java.com/
